How often your child gets sick isn’t necessarily the most important question.👇🏼
Parents often ask:
“My child gets sick 3 or 4 times a year — does that mean their immune system is weak?”
But Elliane explains why it’s not quite that simple.
Children are naturally exposed to plenty of bugs as they grow, particularly when they’re at daycare or school. So rather than focusing solely on how many times they get sick, it can be more useful to look at the bigger picture:
🌿 How well are they recovering?
🌿 How long does it take them to bounce back?
🌿 Are they getting back to their usual energy and wellbeing between illnesses?
🌿 What does their overall health, nutrition, sleep and resilience look like?
The number itself is only one piece of the puzzle.
Sometimes the more meaningful information comes from how a child moves through an illness and recovers afterwards.
This is where taking a broader, individualised approach to paediatric health can be valuable — looking beyond the immediate illness and considering the child as a whole.
