A local business I’m very happy to recommend πŸš—πŸ’š

I wanted to give a shout-out to Lynne from Adelaide Hills Driving School.

Learning to drive can be exciting, but for some people it can also feel overwhelming, particularly when anxiety, confidence, sensory needs or neurodivergence are part of the picture. Having the right instructor can make an enormous difference.

Lynne provides a patient, supportive and neuroaffirming approach, taking the time to understand the individual learner rather than expecting every person to learn in exactly the same way.

She also works with NDIS participants, supporting people to build not only their driving skills, but also their confidence, independence and ability to participate more fully in their community.

What I particularly like is that it isn’t simply about getting someone through a driving test. It is about helping them become a safe, capable and confident driver for life.

If you have a young person, an adult learner, or an NDIS participant who would benefit from a calm, understanding and individualised approach to learning to drive, I would absolutely recommend having a chat with Lynne.

Developmental Educator or Occupational Therapist?

It’s a question families and individuals may have when looking for the right support.

Both Developmental Educators and Occupational Therapists can help people build confidence, independence and participation in everyday life, but their focus can be different.

A Developmental Educator may support you with:
β€’ Building everyday life skills
β€’ Developing routines and strategies
β€’ Social and communication skills
β€’ Emotional regulation and confidence
β€’ Working towards personal goals
β€’ Increasing independence and community participation

An Occupational Therapist may support you with:
β€’ Everyday activities such as dressing, cooking and self care
β€’ Fine and gross motor skills
β€’ Sensory processing and regulation
β€’ Making tasks or environments easier to navigate
β€’ Equipment and assistive technology
β€’ Building independence at home, school, work and in the community

Sometimes one may be the right fit. Sometimes both professions can work together as part of a person’s support team.

Not sure which support might suit your needs? Our team can help you explore the options.

Sometimes it’s not about trying harder.

When everyday routines feel overwhelming, even simple tasks can become difficult to start, organise or follow through with.

Having the right structure and support can make things feel more manageable.

A Developmental Educator can work alongside children and adults to build routines that support confidence, independence and everyday participation.

This might look like creating a smoother morning routine, breaking tasks into manageable steps, preparing for transitions or finding practical strategies that work for the individual.

Because sometimes, a small change in how the day is structured can make a big difference in how the day feels.

If everyday routines are feeling harder than they need to be, our team is here to help you explore practical strategies that fit into everyday life.

When everyday tasks feel challenging, the right support can help. πŸ’š

Occupational Therapy is about more than therapy sessions. It's about helping children take part in everyday life with greater ease.

Whether it's getting dressed, joining in at school, managing daily routines or building skills through play, the right support can make a meaningful difference.

Our Occupational Therapists, Sara Pozzebon and Gladys Chiu, currently have availability for new participants.
