Everyone experiences the world differently. These examples highlight some preferences for sensory seekers and sensory‑sensitive (or sensory avoiders) people, but each person’s sensory profile is unique and there is not a “one size fits all”. What matters most is discovering what feels right for each person individually🌟

Our community deserves better.

On behalf of our community and the families we support, we want to express our deep disappointment with the recent NDIS reform news.

We understand the need for a sustainable NDIS, but reform must never come at the expense of people with disability and their families.

Our families need certainty, genuine choice, continuity of support and a system that listens — not more barriers, stress and uncertainty.

Reform must be done with people with disability, not to them.

If the recent news feels overwhelming, please remember you don’t have to face it alone. Support is available:

💙 Lifeline: 13 11 14
📱 Lifeline Text: 0477 13 11 14
💬 Online Crisis Chat: Lifeline Crisis Chat

We will continue to stand beside our community and advocate for a fair, accessible and inclusive NDIS.

People with disability deserve dignity. Families deserve certainty. Our community deserves to be heard.

Sometimes success is a straight line, but most of the time it is not. The journey to success often includes multiple hurdles, setbacks, and unexpected turns, creating a squiggly line rather than a perfect path.

This squiggly line represents the truth about success: it is not always picture-perfect. It is a journey filled with challenges, growth, resilience, and moments of achievement along the way.

At Disability SA, we support people through the times when their journey feels a little “squiggly.” We walk alongside individuals, helping them overcome challenges, work towards their goals, and achieve success in their own way.

A growth mindset is a key part of what our DEs teach across our sessions. It’s about seeing challenges as opportunities to learn, rather than something to avoid 🌱

A growth mindset is like a tree, it keeps growing when it’s watered, cared for, and given sunshine. Mistakes help it grow stronger. 🌳

We focus on effort, progress, and normalising mistakes as part of the learning process, helping build confidence and resilience over time.

Learning is about growth, not perfection.

Autistic masking is when a person hides or changes their natural behaviours to fit in or feel safe. It can be exhausting, and many people mask without even realising, masking is tiring and can lead to burnout. For people who are neurodivergent masking can feel like a necessary survival strategy. Every person’s experience with masking is different, and understanding it helps us create spaces where people feel safe to be their true selves.🧠✨

Child-led practice is at the heart of what we do.

Child-led doesn’t mean no structure it means having a clear purpose, while remaining flexible in how we get there.

While we always have a therapy goal in mind, the way we achieve this often shifts in the moment based on what the person needs right then and there. We meet individuals where they are at emotionally, mentally, and physically and adapt accordingly.

This might look like conversation, movement, sensory supports, regulation strategies, or simply creating space with no pressure at all.

If you’re looking to explore tailored support options, we’d love to connect and see how we can help

Inclusive communication is key to creating neurodiverse-friendly workplaces.

Simple adjustments can make a meaningful difference.

When we adapt how we communicate, we create spaces where everyone feels understood, valued, and able to contribute. 💬

This is a sneak peek from our Leadership for Neurodivergent Inclusion full-day workshop.
At Disability SA, we’re proud to offer a wide range of neurodiverse community and workplace training, delivered by our passionate team.

Carers play an important role in helping people complete the 2026 Census and there are clear guidelines to support you. The Census helps plan transport, schools, health care, disability services and community supports. Census night is Tuesday 11 August 2026, and everyone in Australia needs to be counted.

If you’re supporting someone to complete their Census, here’s what you need to know:
🧡 You can help if they ask you
🧡 Encourage them to enter their own information where possible
🧡 Provide accurate information or your best estimate if they can’t
🧡 Keep all personal information private
🧡 Make sure the form is checked, signed and submitted

If needing support visit census.abs.gov.au/help.
