About 40kms in on the Tanami desert road which is 1000kms long and about 800kms dirt (corrugated in places but not too bad after the Gibb River road) we realised our last water tank had a split and we lost all of that water too.
Spent one night sleeping on that road and kept going early the next day. I can't remember how far along when Scott felt something else was wrong so he went to check things. This time one of the caravan brakes was locked on and wouldn't unlock. So under the van again and he had to dismantle it, so now only running on one side of brakes for the van. While he was under the van I looked behind the caravan and a 2 metre snake was crossing the road behind the van about 3 metres back. I was wondering what else can go wrong out here in the heat and only seeing 1 car every couple of hours. Somewhere on this road Scott was tightening the wheel nuts on his tyres and one sheered off, so travelling with only 4 on that tyre now. We made it to Tilmouth Well Roadhouse/caravan park where we could have showers thank goodness.

Also by now the door hinges aren't happy so he's having to use his drill in about 5 places to keep the door on while we are travelling. He has been doing this for the last 4 or 5 days now.

Ok, so we travel into Alice Springs and then Scott informs me that his handbrake cable has snapped and not working. He gets some bits and pieces from Bunnings and is under the car this time doing his bush mechanic thing and giving us some sort of handbrake to travel home with.

Scott has been doing 8, 9 or more hours driving for the last 4 days or so to get me home so I can finish having my little mini breakdown. I'll be fine by the weekend hopefully 😥 Scott is fine, not stressed at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️

A couple of crack chips on the windscreen too, table broken and who knows what else. 😞

Thank you Scott for getting us home safely and your knowledge of bush mechanics to get us out of tricky situations.

Not sure if there will be any more caravan trips but at least Scott has ticked Gibb River road off his bucket list and he's happy about that.

On a lighter note here are some photos of the Clare valley on the way home, so green and the canola is in full bloom.

We decided to visit Wolfe creek but didn't end up staying the night and continued on to cross the Tanami desert for the trip home because we had so many things falling apart on the caravan after the Gibb River road trip. We were meant to go down the West coast of Western Australia then across the nullabour and home but it would have taken so much longer.

Yesterday we took on the challenge of driving into the Bungle Bungles and left at 5.30am as we knew it was going to be a long day.

Yes it took over 1 1/2 hours to drive in to the information centre which is 53kms in. The road is very rough with about 5 water crossings in, some challenging with the rocks, so you have to do it slowly and carefully.

Once you've done the 53kms the rest of the roads in the national park are quite good going from one place to another.

First we went to echidna chasm and then onto the cathedral. It was quite hot by the time we walked the 3km round trip into the cathedral. We had a picnic lunch there with another family who have been travelling since February. We exchanged the dramas we had both experienced with cars and caravans. 😂

The scenery was amazing and glad we made the effort to drive the badly corrugated roads.

We came home tired and weary. Well done Scott with your driving and making me feel safe.

Last night we stayed at Mary Poole campground WA. It was a large area and lovely with cows walking close by to us. Toilets and dump point but no water or showers. Great free camping spot.

We are at Mary Poole campground where the cows just walk around casually. Here is one walking through out campsite this morning. We also watched a small calf running amuck which was so cute to watch also.

Yesterday got worse as the day went on, we couldn't find where we wanted to stay, another location not sign posted. 🤦🏻‍♀️

We went into Fitzroy crossing, bought fuel, pumped up tyres and did a grocery shop. Unfortunately we were and hour late to stock up on b**r again, the shop closed at 4pm. We decided to head out of town as we felt a little uncomfortable there.

Driving up the road we heard another noise. Unfortunately another water tank decided it was time to go. So there's Scott under the caravan once again dismantling it properly, but this time he had to do it in the dark instead of in the heat on a dirt road. Luckily we found a gravel stop not far up the road and with WiFi so here we have stayed the night. So now we have lost two out of the three water tanks, the hot water service(no showers now) and the pump to the water tanks. Oh and plus the rim and tyre. The holiday might be ending earlier than expected now.

Yesterday started off with a visit to Windjana Gorge, lovely sandy walk for a change and not clambering over rocks and boulders.

Then up the road a bit it was Tunnel Creek, wading through water and using torches to see in the tunnel.
