Highlights of the Beyond Blindness Overnight Trip to Leigh Creek.
1st - 5th June 2026

We had an enjoyable trip and stayed at the Leigh Creek Outback Resort. The highlights of the trip was the tour of Farina, with a guide on each bus describing the history of the town. We also visited the underground wooden oven built in 1800s, still used today for baking bread. All the Staff were volunteers.

We also went to the Ochre Pits. Is a site significant to Aboriginal people in ceremonies including trade, medicine, art and burials. Colours of the pits changed according to the angle of the sun. We also enjoyed lunch at the amazing Copley Bush Bakery, popular for their Quandong pies. The next day we travelled to Marree Hotel where the Tom Kruse Mail truck was, and they also had a museum there.

What a wonderful Pamper Day we had at Beyond Blindness Christies Beach! 🫧🧖🏼‍♀️

Members enjoyed a relaxing and well-deserved day of self-care, conducted by Member/Volunteer Donna, complete with soothing back massages, warm hand baths, skin scrubs, and beautifully painted nails.💅

On May 9th the Beyond Blindness Travel Club went to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Port Adelaide, called Yitpi Yartapuultiku, which means “soul of Port Adelaide.” Our guide was Willis, and we all found the guided walking tour and talk about the uses of the indigenous flora very interesting.🌿

Then we went to the Carlisle Tavern and had another very delicious lunch. We also have raffles and lucky cards where you have the chance of winning a prize or some money, we do this each time.🎲

🚐Beyond Blindness Travel Club goes out for excursions across Adelaide once a month on a Saturday.

Volunteers Nathan and Sarah assisted Beyond Blindness Members at the “VoiceOver Workshop for iPhone and iPads” at Apple’s Rundle Mall Store.🍏

Attendees were talked through basic commands such as activating Voice-Over, and using Siri to retrieve messages and emails. Apple staff also answered some user questions which have previously baffled Members. Members also shared tips and tricks amongst themselves about how to use their iPhone.📱

We thank Apple for conducting the session with Members and Volunteers.🙏🏻

On Friday 29th May, the Men’s Group from Trinity Church visited the Beyond Blindness office in Campbelltown for an informative and engaging presentation.

The session provided valuable insights into the work of Beyond Blindness, as well as important information about blindness and low vision. It sparked meaningful discussions, with plenty of questions and thoughtful conversation about how vision loss impacts people’s lives.

That’s a wrap on National Volunteer Week at Beyond Blindness!

This morning, we came together over a special morning tea to recognise and celebrate our incredible volunteers—individuals who generously dedicate their time, skills, and energy to supporting our members and our organisation.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, with volunteers joining us from our Central Office, Southern Office, Northern Base, and Western area. Moments like these remind us of the strength and reach of our volunteer community.

The morning tea was a small token of appreciation for the countless seen and unseen contributions our volunteers make every day. Your commitment, compassion, and willingness to give so freely truly make a difference.

A special highlight was the beautiful catering, thoughtfully prepared by one of our very own volunteers—an effort that was deeply appreciated by all.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Foodland Munno Para for their generous donation, which helped us celebrate this special occasion.

To all our volunteers—thank you. Your dedication and support are at the heart of everything we do, and we are truly grateful. 💙

Beyond Blindness Members had an unforgettable visit to the Hall of Fame at Adelaide Town Hall. The exhibition honours artists, bands, industry professionals and venues who have contributed in a significant way to South Australia's musical legacy. 🎸

This week is National Volunteer Week, and Beyond Blindness would like to sincerely thank all our volunteers for the valuable time, skills, and dedication they generously give.💙

Our volunteers support both our Members and our organisation in many ways, including (but not limited to) driving, sight guiding, small jobs, administration, and catering. There are many reasons people choose to volunteer with Beyond Blindness, and it is heartwarming to see our volunteers working alongside and supporting our Members.

We proudly acknowledge our current and past volunteers and recognise the lasting impact they have had on both our organisation and our Members. Without our volunteers, we would not be able to offer the services that we do.

We are deeply grateful for your hard work, commitment, and kindness - and for the smiles you receive in return with every well deserved “thank you” from our Members.
