That’s a wrap on National Volunteer Week at Beyond Blindness!

This morning, we came together over a special morning tea to recognise and celebrate our incredible volunteers—individuals who generously dedicate their time, skills, and energy to supporting our members and our organisation.

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, with volunteers joining us from our Central Office, Southern Office, Northern Base, and Western area. Moments like these remind us of the strength and reach of our volunteer community.

The morning tea was a small token of appreciation for the countless seen and unseen contributions our volunteers make every day. Your commitment, compassion, and willingness to give so freely truly make a difference.

A special highlight was the beautiful catering, thoughtfully prepared by one of our very own volunteers—an effort that was deeply appreciated by all.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Foodland Munno Para for their generous donation, which helped us celebrate this special occasion.

To all our volunteers—thank you. Your dedication and support are at the heart of everything we do, and we are truly grateful. 💙

Beyond Blindness Members had an unforgettable visit to the Hall of Fame at Adelaide Town Hall. The exhibition honours artists, bands, industry professionals and venues who have contributed in a significant way to South Australia's musical legacy. 🎸

Thank you kindly to the tour organisers and guides who brought rich music history to life with fascinating stories, local legends, and hidden gems from our state’s vibrant musical past. 🎶

This week is National Volunteer Week, and Beyond Blindness would like to sincerely thank all our volunteers for the valuable time, skills, and dedication they generously give.💙

Our volunteers support both our Members and our organisation in many ways, including (but not limited to) driving, sight guiding, small jobs, administration, and catering. There are many reasons people choose to volunteer with Beyond Blindness, and it is heartwarming to see our volunteers working alongside and supporting our Members.

We proudly acknowledge our current and past volunteers and recognise the lasting impact they have had on both our organisation and our Members. Without our volunteers, we would not be able to offer the services that we do.

We are deeply grateful for your hard work, commitment, and kindness - and for the smiles you receive in return with every well deserved “thank you” from our Members.

Happy Volunteer Week!🙋🏻‍♀️💙

Member Antonio sung another traditional Italian song, “Bella Ciao”, at this month’s Seniors Coffee and Chat. He even had the Members singing along!☕️🇮🇹 Bravo!

🧡National Palliative Care Week 10th - 16th May 2026 - Getting to the heart of it🧡: Big Questions. Real Answers.
Today Members from the North Group had a Guest Speaker, Shyla from Palliative Care SA to discuss Palliative Care and Advanced Care Directives. The talk was both informative and encouraged us all to have a conversation with our loved ones about our wishes.

Thank you Shyla for your information and answering all our questions.

Beyond Blindness Members participated in a Tour of Adelaide Oval.🏈 38 people came along to it - that must be some sort of attendance record!✅

Participants were split into 3 groups. They kicked off the day by walking onto the field through the same entrance used by our talented sporting stars - with an audio recording playing from the speakers above to cheer on our Members!📣

They were then taken behind the scenes on a tour of the iconic Adelaide Oval Stadium. Members were taught its history, and learnt of the heritage and significance of this world class venue, including a description of their heritage-listed scoreboard, operated via cogs and chains, still functioning to this day.⛓️

Safe to say the Members had a ball on this tour!🏏

Thank you to Adelaide Oval for hosting Beyond Blindness, and the Volunteer Guides for sharing informative expertise!🙏🏻

Video description: A tour group is shown from behind, walking out of the tunnel which ends, then opens up to show the sky, seats and the vast, grassed oval. The view then switches to showing the group from the front walking out onto the field, then each Member turning left. The first Member pretends to jog out onto the field, bringing laughs.

Members are seated to the side of the oval with a tour guide pointing and talking about the oval. The view then pans across the oval.

Members are standing next to the scoreboard outside, with a tour guide explaining about its history.

A tour guide is walking Members through the inside of the Adelaide Oval building, pointing at photos on the wall while talking to the group.

The Beyond Blindness Moonta and Surrounds Group always has a great time catching up with each other, not only to share a meal but to share in lots of laughter and chatter. 😄 Monday was no exception with lunch at The Port Vincent Hotel overlooking the white sand and blue water. 🌊

If you are blind and vision-impaired and live in the Copper Coast region and are interested in joining, please contact us!

We are also seeking Volunteers of sight-guides to help our blind and vision-impaired Members participate in these social outings.🙋🏻‍♂️
