A conversation across the table.
Meeting someone for the first time.
Catching up with a familiar face.
Sharing a story, a laugh, or simply enjoying time together.
Our Care Assure Tasmania Gala Dinner brought together participants, team members, Support Coordinators and people from across our community for an evening away from the usual day-to-day.
It was a chance to slow down, enjoy each other’s company, appreciate the work happening across our community and reflect on the care, commitment and people behind it.
More than a dinner, it was simply a chance to come together, share stories, recognise the work being done and enjoy the evening with good company.
There was also something particularly meaningful about where we gathered.
Our evening was held at Rydges Hobart, a heritage property with an interesting connection to Tasmania’s disability history. Buildings that now form part of the hotel complex were once home to the Blind, Deaf and Dumb Institution, which opened in North Hobart in 1898 and provided education, training and welfare services. Parts of that history remain within the property today, including its Braille Library.
More than a century later, the setting gave us a moment to reflect on how conversations around disability, inclusion and participation have evolved and why continuing that progress matters.
A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made the evening what it was, and to Rydges Hobart for having us.
