🔷 What is micturition?
Micturition is the process of emptying the urinary bladder. It is primarily a spinal reflex, but higher brain centers can control, delay, or facilitate the reflex.

🔷 1. Bladder filling — “Storage mode”
➡️ As urine enters the bladder, the bladder wall stretches.
➡️ The detrusor muscle (smooth muscle) remains relaxed, allowing the bladder to store urine.
➡️ The internal urethral sphincter remains closed.
➡️ The external urethral sphincter, made of skeletal muscle, stays contracted under voluntary control.
➡️ Sympathetic and somatic pathways help maintain continence.

🔷 What is Piriformis Syndrome?
Piriformis syndrome occurs when the piriformis muscle irritates or compresses the sciatic nerve, usually in the buttock region.

🔷 Why does it cause sciatica-like pain?
The sciatic nerve passes very close to—and sometimes through—the piriformis muscle. When the muscle becomes tight, irritated, or swollen, it may affect the nerve.
