Not long now, Mount Barker! 👀

We're getting closer to opening the doors at our new sportsmed Mount Barker location, and things are really starting to take shape.

With the finishing touches underway, we're looking forward to welcoming the local community in just a few short weeks.

On 18 September, we came together to celebrate the retirement of Dr Mark Fisher and Dr Anthony (Tony) Spriggins after two careers that have made a lasting contribution to sportsmed and the people we care for.

Mark’s connection to sportsmed goes right back to the beginning. As one of the co-founding Principal Practitioners of SPORTSMED·SA, he was part of the group that came together in the late 1980s to establish the clinic and help shape what sportsmed would become.

Tony’s career as an orthopaedic surgeon has seen him perform more than 30,000 surgical procedures, specialising in complex hip and knee surgery and playing a leading role in adopting modern robotic surgical techniques.

Between them, Mark and Tony have cared for countless patients, supported colleagues and contributed enormously to the sportsmed community over many years.

It was wonderful to bring together colleagues and friends to celebrate their careers, share stories and recognise everything they have contributed along the way.

Thank you, Mark and Tony - and congratulations on two very well-earned retirements.

More than 300 City-Bay participants stopped by for post-race massages, with the sportsmed team helping tired bodies recover after a huge effort.

And a special mention to Tony Heard, who completed his 52nd City-Bay. After sharing his story with us in the lead-up to the event, it was great to see him add another one to the tally.

A new face joining the sportsmed team 👋

We’re pleased to welcome Tobey Ledger, Exercise Physiologist, who will be joining us from mid September across our Stepney and Blackwood clinics.

Tobey has a particular interest in:
• musculoskeletal injury rehabilitation, including knees, shoulders, ankles and hips
• pre and post-operative rehabilitation
• neurological conditions
• chronic disease management
• strength and conditioning

We’re looking forward to having Tobey on board and introducing him to our patients over the coming weeks.

Just over a week to go until City-Bay Fun Run … what’s for dinner? 🏃‍♂️🍚

If you’re planning what to eat before the big day, this week is a good time to give your pre-race meal a trial run. That way, you know what works for you before race weekend arrives.

Mandy’s Satay Chicken Skewers with Coconut Rice could be one to add to the menu - chicken skewers, coconut rice, satay sauce and a fresh cucumber salad.

Before Eddie took his first step into his crossing, we asked him for one final reflection.

What was going through his mind? What did he expect would be the biggest challenge? And what would he say to someone else chasing a goal that feels enormous?

Now, weeks later, Eddie is has just crossed the SA border into Victoria – and the reality of 3,900km has well and truly (!!) set in.

He’s feeling every kilometre, physically and mentally, but he’s still moving forward. 🏃‍♂️🇦🇺

It feels like the perfect time to look back at what he had to say before it all began.
