Here’s a reminder that the RAH has a stunning Clinical Trial Centre.
We are waiting for the Covid swabbing clinic to be moved so that Research can recommence at the RAH.
Where is a good spot in that the pop up clinics should be instead of at an acute hospital in the Research Centre?

Australia’s current investment into health and medical research through the National Health and Medical Research Council - NHMRC and Medical Research Future Fund equates to 0.53% of total health expenditure.

ASMR’s recommendation is to lift this investment to 3% of total health expenditure.

This investment model will create a predictable and sustainable health and medical research ecosystem. It will ensure that Australia's army of scientists and researchers are primed to address immediate and emerging health challenges, mitigating the rising and unsustainable cost of health care and the burden of disease Australia is facing, and delivering economic gains.

Being run @ Royal Adelaide Hospital

All healthcare workers across South Australia including hospital staff, paramedics, and aged care facility staff are invited to join the BRACE trial.

The World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed BRACE trial will investigate whether having the Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine alongside the flu vaccine can reduce the health consequences of infection in Australian healthcare workers.

Participants will receive the BCG vaccine, traditionally used to prevent tuberculosis, or a placebo vaccine. Participants must have already received their influenza vaccine this season and can participate anytime after 72 hours of receiving their flu vaccine.

Potential participants can register at www.mcri.edu.au/BRACE, or contact [email protected].

FOR ALL SA HEALTH STAFF
20 May 2020

INTERNATIONAL CLINICAL TRIALS DAY

International Clinical Trials Day celebrates everyone involved in clinical trials and provides a unique opportunity to raise awareness of the vital role it plays in healthcare.

On 20 May 1747, James Lind started what is often considered the first randomised clinical trial aboard a ship to determine the cause of scurvy.

Now more than ever we recognise the importance of clinical trials as the world races to find a vaccine for COVID-19.

SA Health is partnering with SAHMRI and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute in a clinical trial to test whether BCG vaccination can boost protection against COVID-19 for healthcare workers.

In South Australia, health care workers employed by the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Women's and Children's Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre will be initially invited to participate in the BRACE trial.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all South Australian clinical researchers for their dedication and commitment to the work they do every day to improve public health.

Also, I want to acknowledge the members of the community who participate in clinical trials to help find answers to important clinical questions, which ultimately lead to better outcomes for patients and the health system.

Acting Chief Medical Officer
