🖤💛❤️ 💚💙🤍National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day ❤️💛🖤 💚💙🤍

Today, We proudly celebrates National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day a day that honours the strength, culture, resilience and potential of First Nations children.

Established in 1988, this important day also acknowledges the many Stolen Generations children whose birthdays were never known, making 4 August a meaningful day of recognition and celebration.

The 2026 theme, “Living Our Truth,” celebrates truth telling, storytelling and the passing of knowledge through generations.

As the Eldercare team, we also recognise the invaluable role our Elders play in guiding and nurturing our children by sharing culture, language, stories and traditions. These connections help strengthen identity, belonging and pride in who they are.

Today, we celebrate our children, listen to their voices, and honour the strong communities and families who support them every day.

Together, we can ensure every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child grows up feeling safe, connected, valued and proud of their culture.

As we get ready for another incredible celebration, we'd love to share a little of what happens behind the scenes.

Online registrations opened in late April, providing 54 days for businesses, organisations and community groups to submit their applications before closing on Friday 19 June.

This year we received 90 registrations across community stalls, food vendors, kids' activities and amusements.

Following the assessment and approval process, 66 stalls were confirmed for this year's festival, including:
• 24 First Nations businesses and organisations
• 37 Government and community organisations
• 5 Food Vendors
• 28 Volunteers

Supporting and showcasing First Nations businesses, organisations and community remains a priority in the allocation process.

We know there is always strong interest in being part of the festival, and every year we receive enquiries after registrations have closed. Once applications closed, planning is aleady well underway, with site allocations, approvals, traffic management, safety planning, infrastructure, power, accessibility, entertainment scheduling and logistics all being finalised. To ensure a safe, fair and well-managed event for everyone, any late registrations are placed on a waiting list and cannot always be accommodated.

While many people experience the festival on the day, months of planning happen long before the first marquee is installed. Delivering South Australia's largest NAIDOC Week celebration is a significant undertaking that relies on collaboration, planning and an incredible amount of behind-the-scenes work.

A heartfelt thank you to the South Australian NAIDOC Committee, whose members volunteer countless hours throughout the year to make this celebration possible. Their dedication, leadership and commitment to community are at the heart of NAIDOC Week in South Australia.

Balya Productions is a First Nations Events Team, an Multi award-winning First Nations-governed production and events company, thank you for working alongside the Committee to professionally deliver this event. Together, the Committee and Balya Productions are committed to creating a culturally safe, inclusive and memorable celebration that our community can be proud of.

Finally, thank you to every performer, speaker, stallholder, volunteer, sponsor, partner and community member who has contributed to this year's festival. Your support helps make NAIDOC Week a celebration of our cultures, our achievements and our future.

We can't wait to welcome everyone to Tarntanyangga (Victoria Square) this Friday.

See you there! ✊🏾❤️💛🖤💚🤍💙

"After five years of dedicated service, AFSS officially concluded our NDIS Services Program on 27 February 2026.

Since becoming a registered provider in 2022, our team delivered Support Coordination, Mentoring and Support Worker services to Aboriginal participants and families across South Australia. We were proud to walk alongside community - helping people navigate the NDIS, build confidence, connect with culturally safe services, and strengthen independence.

A highlight of this journey was the 'Be With Me' Navigator Project, which improved access to the NDIS and other supports for Aboriginal people with disability and their families.

While this chapter has now closed, its impact continues. We thank our participants, families, staff, service providers and stakeholders for their trust and collaboration".

It has been a privilege to serve and support our community".
