SA Community Visitor Scheme - CVS We provide clients with advocacy and assistance to ensure mental health and disability services are appropriate to needs.

The Community Visitor Scheme is an independent statutory body, reporting to the Minister for Health and Wellbeing on matters related to the scheme’s functions under the Mental Health Act 2009 and to the Minister for Human Services on matters related to the scheme’s functions under the Disability Services (Community Visitor Scheme) Regulations 2013. The purpose of the Community Visitor Scheme is to further protect the rights of people with a mental illness who are admitted to mental health care units and people with a disability who live in a state-run disability accommodation facility. The independence of the Community Visitor Scheme is integral to the program, enabling patients/residents, carers and family members to speak with individuals who are not associated with the provision of support.

South Australia Volunteers Day - Monday, 8 June 2026

In 2002, the Government of South Australia officially proclaimed the Monday of the King’s Birthday long weekend in June as SA Volunteers Day. This special day was established to celebrate and honour the invaluable contributions of volunteers.

Each year, SA Volunteers Day serves as an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and efforts of those who generously give their time to support communities throughout South Australia.

The Community Visitor Scheme recognises National Reconciliation Week 2006 as a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is “All In”, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

“All In” makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.

Happy National Volunteer Week!

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering from 18-24 May 2026.

It recognises the contribution of millions of volunteers across the country and invites everyone to discover how giving their time and skills can create connection, purpose, and stronger communities.

This year’s theme, “Your Year to Volunteer” honours the contributions of volunteers and invites people across Australia to make 2026 a year of meaningful involvement, in ways that work for them.

2026 is also the United Nations International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026), recognising the vital role volunteers play in building sustainable, inclusive communities worldwide.
