Asbestos Victims Assoc. (SA)

Asbestos Victims Assoc. (SA) Asbestos Awareness Saves Lives. AVA now also works to provide information to the community as to the dangers of asbestos exposure.

The Asbestos Victims Association of South Australia (AVA) is a not-for-profit organisation working to provide support to people living with an asbestos related disease, their family members, carers and friends. AVA is a community-based organisation founded and staffed by volunteers, started as a support service for all people affected by an asbestos-related disease but quickly realising that lack

of awareness of asbestos was a serious problem. Our aim is to reduce the number of people exposed to asbestos, future incidence of asbestos related disease in the South Australian community and to help those who have been affected by asbestos.

We are delighted Thoracic Oncology Frontiers have invited us to collaborate with them to provide an inaugural Global Mesothelioma Education Forum.

The date coincides perfectly with the UKโ€™s Action Mesothelioma Day - with the webinar taking place the day before on Thursday 2 July.

The whole global mesothelioma community: patients, families, advocates, legal members, non-profit, doctors, nurses and researchers are welcome to attend.

As part of SA History Month this May, weโ€™re taking a look at how safety messaging has evolved over the years.

Check out this poster from the National Safety Council of Australia (now known as NSCA Foundation) dated roughly 1950 -1970 reminding workers to stop work and stay alert for hazards.

While the design and style of safety messages have changed over time, the core message remains the same. Awareness and risk prevention save lives.

So many people working together with the same aim - to make asbestos and asbestos disease a thing of the past.

This National Volunteer Week weโ€™re saying thank you to the incredible volunteers behind Australiaโ€™s asbestos- and silica-related disease support groups.

Across the country, these groups provide comfort, guidance and a sense of community for people affected by asbestos- and silica- related diseases and their loved ones.

Many are volunteers with lived experience, giving their time to support others through some of lifeโ€™s toughest moments.

At ASSEA, weโ€™re proud to work with support groups whose work makes a real difference everyday, like the Asbestos Council of Victoria/GARDS Inc, (ACV GARDS) Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia (ADFA), The Asbestos Diseases Society of Australia Inc. (ADSA), Asbestos Disease Support Society (ADSS), The Asbestos Diseases Society of South Australia Inc. (ADSSA), Asbestosis and Mesothelioma Association of Australia (AMAA), Asbestos Victims Assoc. (SA) and Mesothelioma and Dust Diseases Association (MADDA).

Thank you for everything you do.
