To all my pregnant ladies that are wondering if it is safe to get a spray tan while pregnant. This is a question I get asked many times and the first response I always tell my clients is to always check with your doctor for your own peace of mind, especially while in the first trimester.
The short answer to this question is yes though and I’ll give you a little information to help inform you, to help you make your own decision.
The product I spray on your skin is a product called dihydroxyacetone (DHA) it’s basically a sugar that interacts with amino acids in the skin to form brown-coloured products called melanoidins. This reaction is limited to the stratum corneum (outermost layer of the epidermis) so it’s not absorbed into the bloodstream
Studies have shown there is no significant systemic absorption of DHA when applied topically to the skin. I do however recommend the you wear a face mask to prevent inhalation of the product while pregnant.
The same also goes when breastfeeding, I generally recommend a face mask and ni**le covers to avoid the ni**le area and to also rinse product off before breastfeeding feeding, as not only can it stain the babies skin, but you don’t want to get the solution in the babies mouth.
Please feel free to always voice any concerns, as I’m always happy to help. 🌸
