Winter is here and the cooler weather can make your body feel a little slower and stiffer ❄️

This is often linked to reduced circulation, increased muscle tension and changes in activity levels during colder months.

The good news? Staying gently active, warming up well and keeping your body moving regularly may help support mobility and comfort.

Small, consistent habits can make a big difference this winter 💭

This is a question we hear a lot at the clinic!

Both osteopaths and physiotherapists help people manage pain, improve movement and support recovery and there is a lot of overlap in how they work.

At Coast Osteopathy & Sports Therapy, all of our Osteopaths and Physiotherapists offer dry needling, alongside a range of other hands-on and exercise-based treatment approaches tailored to your needs.
Osteopaths take a whole-body approach to assessment and treatment, looking at how the musculoskeletal, nervous and functional systems work together. They may use techniques such as soft tissue therapy, joint mobilisation, stretching, exercise prescription and lifestyle advice to help support movement and reduce discomfort.

Physiotherapists often focus on injury rehabilitation, movement retraining, exercise prescription and restoring function following injury, surgery or pain-related conditions.

Both professions work closely together within our clinic to provide individualised care based on your goals, symptoms and recovery needs.

If you’re unsure who to see, our reception team is always happy to help guide you in the right direction.

Did you know we stock Archies thongs and slides?

Archies incorporate the same amount of support that you would find from an ‘off the shelf’ orthotic, however with the patented design, they look just like normal thongs. Once you get used to them, you will never want to take them off your feet!

Available in a range of colours and styles. Have a look next time you visit us!

Have you ever seen these spiky balls on the front counter and wondered what they can do for you? 👀

These simple tools can be a handy addition to your recovery and self-care routine when used appropriately.

Spiky massage balls are commonly used for:
• Releasing areas of muscle tension
• Gentle self-massage after exercise or long periods of sitting
• Improving body awareness and mobility
• Assisting with warm-up or recovery routines
• Providing temporary relief from feelings of muscle tightness or stiffness

They can be used on areas like the feet, calves, glutes, upper back, and shoulders by applying comfortable pressure against a wall or the floor and slowly rolling over the area.

A few tips:
✔ Start gently and avoid excessive pressure
✔ Roll slowly and breathe normally
✔ Avoid using them directly on joints, injured areas, or areas of significant pain
✔ Stop if symptoms increase or discomfort feels sharp or unusual
✔ If symptoms persist or worsen, seek advice from a qualified health professional

We often recommend self-management strategies alongside hands-on care and exercise-based treatment plans to help support movement and recovery.

⚠️Disclaimer: This information is general in nature and is not intended as individual health advice, diagnosis, or a substitute for assessment and treatment by a registered healthcare practitioner. Spiky massage balls may not be suitable for everyone, particularly in the presence of certain injuries, medical conditions, or acute pain. Always use within your comfort level and seek professional advice if unsure.
