Mpox is a viral infection that mainly spreads through skin-to-skin contact (including during s*x).
Several cases of mpox have recently been reported in South Australia, so itβs important to be on the lookout for symptoms, and to get your vaccine if eligible.
Symptoms of mpox can include a distinctive rash anywhere on the body (it can look like small pimples or sores), fever, muscle aches and swelling of the lymph nodes, or re**al pain.
The mpox vaccine protects against infection and severe disease and is recommended for:
π£ all s*xually active gay, bis*xual or other men who have s*x with men (including cis and trans men)
π£ s*xual partners of the people above, and
π£ s*x workers.
Two doses of mpox vaccine are needed for maximum protection.
The best time to get your vaccine is before exposure, but it can also help to prevent more severe symptoms after youβve been exposed. If youβre travelling overseas or interstate, get your vaccine before departing.
