R U OK? Day reminds us that a simple conversation can make a meaningful difference.

Students from Port Augusta Technical College's Certificate III in Individual Support are celebrating R U OK? Day as they commenced their Mental Health unit today.

As future support workers, these students are building the skills, knowledge and confidence to recognise the importance of mental wellbeing and the power of checking in with others.

Today, and every day, let's encourage conversations that strengthen connections and remind people they are not alone 💛

Meet Georgina – one of our dedicated VET Educators, delivering the Certificate III in Individual Support and helping students build rewarding careers in care.

An Enrolled Nurse with an Advanced Diploma of Nursing, Georgina began her career as a Support Worker and spent 10 years working in an Italian nursing home, caring for a diverse range of residents and developing extensive experience in aged care and dementia support. Her career has also included roles at Centrelink, as a Case Manager, and most recently as a Clinical Trainer, where she delivered training in first aid, CPR, manual handling, and student support. In 2023, she completed her TAE qualification, further strengthening her passion for education.

What Georgina enjoys most about teaching is sharing her knowledge and experiences with students and watching them grow in confidence as they progress through their learning journey and achieve their goals.

Outside of work, Georgina is kept entertained by her two puppies, Bailey and Narla, a brother-sister Kelpie and Red Heeler mix. One of her favourite fun facts is that Narla has been suckling on her blanket before falling asleep ever since she was a puppy, and she's still doing it at five years old! 🐾

Thank you, Georgina, for bringing your experience, passion, and enthusiasm to ANMEC and helping shape the future healthcare workforce.

Meet Mak! One of our amazing Educators here at ANMEC 💜

Mak teaches across our Aged Care, Disability and Allied Health Assistant programs. Having been part of the ANMEC team from 2019 to 2021 and returning in 2022, he brings a wealth of industry knowledge and experience to his role.

Before joining ANMEC, Mak held leadership roles across aged care, disability, community and acute healthcare. A former Clinical Nurse in a metropolitan hospital’s Geriatric Evaluation and Management Unit, he coordinated patient admissions and hospital patient flow. He is also the Co-Founder and CEO of a not-for-profit supporting NDIS and MAC clients.

Passionate about education and workforce development, Mak enjoys helping students build confidence, succeed in their studies, and become skilled healthcare professionals. He also develops training content and leads innovative projects that benefit students, clients and communities.

Outside of work, Mak enjoys cooking and experimenting with different versions of his favourite meals. He admits he has a terrible sense of direction and once set out to Victor Harbor to visit a student, only to find himself driving home through the Adelaide Hills and ending up in Hahndorf! He also loves learning new skills and is currently trying his hand at sewing.

The future of healthcare is brighter thanks to dedicated professionals like Mak. We're grateful to have him on the ANMEC team, helping nurture tomorrow's healthcare workforce ✨

Take a trip down memory lane with us and relive our very first Industry Day! 🩺💜

It was an incredible day bringing students and healthcare organisations together to connect, learn and explore future career opportunities in nursing and healthcare.

From insightful industry guest speakers to valuable networking opportunities, the event gave students a firsthand look at the diverse pathways available across the sector.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success. We can't wait to do it all again next year!

Meet Helen – one of our inspiring educators 🌟

Helen is an Educator at ANMEC who loves working alongside students as they build confidence, self‑belief, and a strong understanding of their nursing skills.

Her favourite part of the role is helping students truly see their own potential and bringing creativity into the classroom. For Helen, there’s always a new way to learn, grow, and try something different!

Fun fact: Before teaching, Helen worked in a designer hat factory in central London – and one of her daily jobs was walking the owner’s lap dog around the city!

We’re excited to share that the ANMEC, in collaboration with The Action Learning Institute (ALI) and Kalyra, have been named finalists in the Capacity Building category at the ITAC Awards among hundreds of applicants!

This recognition highlights our innovative joint pilot program delivering the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) through a workplace-based learning and assessment model.

This initiative directly responds to critical challenges in aged care, including workforce shortages, the need for rapid upskilling, and barriers to traditional training. By embedding learning into daily practice and focusing on person-centred projects, learners engage deeply with client preferences and lived experiences, ensuring training is practical, meaningful, and industry-aligned.

We’re incredibly proud to be part of a project that is shaping the future of workforce development in aged care.

Congratulations to all partners involved and thank you to everyone supporting this important work 👏👏👏
