L'Arche Adelaide

L'Arche Adelaide We were drawn together by a common vision of establishing community for people with and without intellectual disability in Adelaide.

L’Arche is an international federation of faith communities where people with and without an intellectual disability share life together. A group of people interested in starting a L’Arche community in Adelaide first met in January 2013. We were drawn together by a common vision of establishing community for people with and without intellectual disability. In mid 2015 L’Arche Adelaide officially b

ecame an incorporated body under the banner of L’Arche Australia. We are accorded project status by L’Arche International. We value the support of St Francis of Assisi Anglican Church, Clarence Gardens. Community gatherings are held regularly; our community weekend occurs every January. You’re welcome to attend gatherings, become a community supporter and/or volunteer. For more information about L'Arche Adelaide, please see our web page for contact details.

UPDATE: In total, $504 was raised through Adam's Mother's Day Walk. That equates to a total of 1,008 meals for people in need. Thank you to everyone who supported Adam's fundraiser. Foodbank SA & NT extended their sincere appreciation. Well done to Adam & Bev👏👏
On Sunday 24th May, we had a great time supporting our community member, Adam's annual fundraising walk around Thorndon Park. This year was a little wet but still lots of fun! ☔️
Adam is a keen fundraiser and this year he is raising funds for Foodbank SA & NT, to provide meals for those in need. If you would like to donate to Adam's fundraiser, go to the link: https://fbsantadamsmothersdaywalk.raiselysite.com/.
Thanks to Adam & Bev for inviting us to be part of the walk and the lovely afternoon tea you provided afterwards at the Rezz Hotel 🤗

L'ARCHE ADELAIDE together with SHOUT FOR JOY are inviting people to take part in our next ART WORKSHOP.
WHEN: Saturday 16th May, 2pm - 5pm
WHERE: Adelaide West Uniting Church Hall, 312 Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Brooklyn Park
This workshop provides people with intellectual disabilities an opportunity to produce a piece of artwork that will be exhibited in the SALA Festival in August and/or subsequent exhibitions later this year. The participants will create a picture of 'What makes me happy?’ or ‘Life through my eyes'.
There will be plenty of people to assist the participants with their artwork on the day and it will be a relaxed and fun environment. All materials will be provided at no cost to the participants.
Please RSVP by Thursday 14th May to [email protected] if you or someone you know is interested.

Our Easter Message ❤️

Marianne was a young woman in her early 30’s. She had successfully held a public service job as a social worker, a position of some responsibility. Gradually she found it harder and harder to get through a day’s work. She found herself getting more and more tired. Eventually she went to a doctor and was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. She tried to keep going at her job but finally had to give in to her debilitating impairment. She moved back home with her family who cared for her, as simple daily tasks became exhausting. She turned her hand to writing and became a well-respected children's writer. The following is one of her poems which well reflects something of her faith, as well as the spirit of the Easter Jesus.

The Art of Bandaging

To bandage a wound is the art of acceptance
An act of acknowledgement
Gentle, not judging.

To bandage a wound is to comfort, console
It’s the offer of solace
The gift of release.

It is one wounded person attending another
Compassion encountering pain in the other.

To bandage a wound is a kind of restoring.
A space for renewal
The place where God dwells. Marianne

[Shared with permission]

May you let the Easter Jesus bandage your wounds, and comfort and console you.
May you dwell in the Easter Jesus who grants you solace amidst grief and loneliness.
May you deeply know the Easter Jesus who accepts you just as you are, without judgement.
And may you joyfully embrace the Easter Jesus whose welcoming arms are always open wide.

Peace to you, and all you love, both near and far ❤️
