We're excited to be bringing weekly Social Support Groups to Cloncurry!

These groups are all about staying connected, making new friendships, getting out and about, and having some fun along the way 🃏🚌🥧

We want our group activities to be shaped by you 🫵

MEET MONDAY 🖐️🖐️

Today we'd like to introduce to you our newest Support Services superstar based in Mount Isa, Ally!

🚜Professional background:
I worked as a Mental Health Administrator for over two years. In 2025, I started as a Station Hand in Winton, before relocating to Western Australia’s Kimberley region. There, I worked in Reservations at Drysdale River Station on the Gibb River Road. Following this, I returned home to the family farm on the VIC/NSW border for the harvest season.

❓Why I chose this role:
I have a passion for creating a good rapport with clients to ensure they get the services they need within the community. I also thrive on creating efficient processes within a business so staff can spend more time on outreach and with clients.

💡What I do in my role:
In my Support Services Officer role, I will be helping each staff group in NWRH Mount Isa to ensure a smooth-running operation of services and administrative duties.

📋How my role supports staff/the organisation:
I will be working towards creating an efficient streamline of processes to ensure needs are met and staff are well supported across all areas.

🛻Interests outside of work:
Cruising around the outback with no real plan, my best fur mate Banjo riding shotgun and a swag. Just chasing sunsets, dirt roads, and the next adventure.

🌳Something interesting that happened to you in the last 12-months:
I spent all last year living out of my Dad’s old 75 Series single cab land cruiser and my swag, in which I drove and worked all around Australia, clocking up over 24,000kms.

BOOSTING CLONCURRY HEALTH OUTCOMES 💪🤸‍♀️🏋️‍♀️

NWRH are extremely grateful to have recently been successful in securing an APA Community grant, which has supported our Allied Health team to establish access to gym equipment in Cloncurry.

The grant has enabled our Senior Exercise Physiologist Robyn to improve the local Cloncurry communities access to exercise, rehabilitation, health and wellbeing services.

The equipment has supported improved health outcomes for people within the community, with our team now possessing the ability to offer additional programs and classes, and a wider range of exercise for clients.

Recently we had the pleasure of hosting Jhett a fourth year Occupational Therapy student from JCU: James Cook University, Australia📚✏️

Joining our Longreach team for a 10 week placement, we asked Jhett a few questions about herself and her time with us:

❓HOW DID YOU FIND YOUR TIME WITH OUR CENTRAL WEST TEAM?
I am so grateful to have had my final placement experience with the friendly team at NWRH, in Longreach.

Throughout my placement, I have felt very well supported as a student and have had many opportunities to develop and consolidate my clinical skills and knowledge in this rural and remote community setting.

❓WHAT SKILLS DID YOU GET TO PRACTICE?
I have had the opportunity to collaborate with my clinical educator and other OTs on the team, to provide a range of OT interventions, such as home modifications, assistive technology prescription, functional retraining, and more.

❓WHAT WOULD BE THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR PLACEMENT?
The highlight of my placement has been travelling to nearby towns on outreach trips with the multidisciplinary NWRH team. These experiences have helped to shape my understanding of OT and healthcare in rural and remote areas, and the successful impact collaborative practice can have on client outcomes and holistic wellbeing!

❓WHY DID YOU CHOOSE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY?
I chose OT as my career pathway as I am passionate about helping others to live their life with as much meaning, purpose and independence as possible!

❓ANY FINAL WORDS FOR OTHER ASPIRING ALLIED HEALTH STUDENTS?
Throughout my placement, I have developed an understanding of just how important it is for OT and healthcare students to undertake a placement in rural and remote settings.

Aside from the beautiful scenery, this setting offers the unique opportunity for students to develop practical and clinical skills in locations where health services and resources may be limited, wait times can be abundant and where members of small communities especially appreciate the input you can offer!

Due to scheduled power supply maintenance outside of our controls, the NWRH Townsville office will be closed this coming Monday, June 22.

A very big CONGRATULATIONS goes out today to our newest Occupational Therapist Bella who attended her graduation ceremony in Brisbane recently.

Bella graduated from Australian Catholic University and has commenced working in the Mount Isa team delivering vital services to the North West communities of Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Julia Creek and Camooweal.
