What does tenderness in a reflex point actually mean?
A tender or sensitive reflex point can sometimes be noticed during a reflexology treatment — but what does it actually tell us?
Tenderness does not mean that there is something wrong with the corresponding organ or area of the body. Reflexologists do not diagnose medical conditions through the feet.
Instead, tenderness is an observation that an area is responding more sensitively to pressure at that time.
In reflexology, this may be understood as an indication of imbalance or energetic congestion within the system, rather than a structural problem.
Sensitivity can vary between clients and from one treatment to another, so it should always be considered alongside the client’s comfort and feedback.
A useful reminder for practitioners:
Observe, adapt and record — don’t diagnose.
