This week is National Volunteer Week and Albany & Regional Volunteer Service honoured volunteer groups and individuals at an awards ceremony last night. A wonderful night to reflect on the value of volunteer and network.
Albany Light Opera & Theatre Company was well represented, with Lets Shine nominated as a volunteer group and performing the opening line dance to the song “Blue Water”, written by past ALOTCo member Evan Ayres Music and Flood the Moon. Thankyou breaksea.org The 11 of us range from ages in their 20' to mid 70's, Jess, Emily, Linda, Jodie, Naomi, Karra, Rilee, Deb, Kaleisha and Janet enjoyed the opportunity to show off.
We also had Kevin McCreton as MC and Hardy Croucher performing stand-up comedy, we are proud to say are part of ALOTCo.
Congratulations to all nominees and the well-deserved winners, Albany Community Hospice and Andrew Eyden.- Albany Historical Society.
Thankyou to Sarah, Christine and the board of ARVS for such a wonderful event.
More photos of our dancers to come.
Thankyou Kevin for reading this out.
Let’s Shine, is an all-abilities performing group proudly supported by the Albany Light Opera and Theatre Company and rehearse at the Albany Port Theatre.
Let’s Shine provides a safe and supportive environment where people can express themselves through performance, music, dance and creativity.
We began back in 1998 and since then have presented five major productions. One of those, Let’s Shine Forever in 2014, won the City of Albany Australia Day Awards ‘Event of the Year’.
Over the past five years, we’ve also collaborated annually with Breaksea Productions in integrated productions, usually performed at the Albany Entertainment Centre.
Last year, we were part of a special project where we were filmed line dancing to the song Blue Water, written by local singer and past Light Opera member Evan Ayres. The film also involved other local performers, was screened at the ‘Kaya New Year’s Eve’ celebrations.
Today we are excited to perform Blue Water for you. While we have a smaller group with us today than our usual 20 performers, we are very proud to share this performance with you. Unfortunately, our five wheelchair dancers couldn’t join us today, but they are very much part of the Let’s Shine family and spirit.
