Woke up and your jaw won't open properly? That's called trismus and it's more common than you think.
Trismus (or "locked jaw") happens when muscle tightness, joint dysfunction, or inflammation restricts your mouth from opening fully. Eating, talking, even yawning can become painful or impossible.
Here's what to do immediately:
š„£ Stick to soft foods
š”ļø Apply moist heat
ā ļø Avoid movements that trigger pain
Here's the most important thing to know: if your jaw has been locked for less than six weeks, your chances of a full recovery are excellent, especially with early treatment. The sooner you act, the fewer sessions you'll need.
At My Jaw Physio, we have expertise in exactly this; hands-on manual therapy, customised exercise programs, and real education so you understand what's happening in your body.
Don't wait it out. Your jaw will thank you. š
