Remote Vocational Training Scheme - RVTS Training and retaining doctors in Australian communities.

RVTS is a distance education program for GP registrars in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and rural & remote communities across Australia. The endpoint is GP Fellowship (FACRRM and/or FRACGP/FARGP) & vocational recognition with Medicare Australia.

What if you found a training location where you wanted to stay long term?

With RVTS, you can train towards Fellowship while working in the same community — giving you time to build relationships, settle in, and become part of the community around you.

And you don't have to choose between your career and putting down roots. Staying in one location means you can build your professional and personal life in the same place.

RVTS doctors stay in their training location for an average of 5 years, and HALF stay for at least two years after training.

Rural communities need more than doctors. They need doctors who can build trust, relationships and continuity of care over time.

RVTS supports doctors working in rural, remote and First Nations communities to achieve GP and Rural Generalist Fellowship while remaining in the communities they serve.

Through structured education, supervision and comprehensive support, RVTS enables doctors to continue providing care to their patients while training, contributing to workforce retention and continuity of care in rural and remote Australia.

Come and connect with the RVTS team to learn more about how we support doctors working in Aboriginal Medical Services to achieve GP and Rural Generalist Fellowship.

Through the AMS Stream, RVTS provides structured education, supervision, cultural mentoring and ongoing support, enabling doctors to train towards FRACGP and/or FACRRM while remaining connected to the communities they serve.

📢 Applications are NOW OPEN for RVTS GP and RG training!

Eligible RVTS registrars may be able to access additional Commonwealth Government support while training toward Fellowship.

Available incentives include:
✓ Salary support for new registrars
✓ Up to 5 days of funded study leave per training year
✓ Up to 20 weeks of parental leave support for eligible primary caregivers
✓ 2 weeks of parental leave support for eligible secondary caregivers

RVTS is a fully Commonwealth-funded training program for doctors working in rural, remote and Aboriginal Medical Service settings across Australia.

Applications are now open! Train toward ACRRM Fellowship without leaving your community.

With the Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS), doctors working in rural, remote and Aboriginal Medical Service settings can complete ACRRM Fellowship through structured remote supervision and tailored education.

✔ Stay in one location
✔ Continue caring for your patients
✔ Fully Commonwealth-funded

Eligible RVTS registrars will also have access to additional GP Training incentive payments, including salary, study leave and parental leave support.

📍Train where you’re needed. Feel supported while you do it.

RVTS helps doctors working in rural, remote and Aboriginal Medical Service settings train toward GP or Rural Generalist Fellowship without leaving their community.

You’ll be supported with dedicated supervision, weekly webinars, residential workshops, clinical teaching visits, cultural mentoring, peer connection and exam preparation.

The program is fully Commonwealth-funded, with no application fee and no relocation required.

Additional GP Training incentives are also available to eligible registrars, including salary, study leave and parental leave support.

Applications open 10 August for a January 2027 start. Places are limited.
