✨ Celebration Post ✨

This little learner has been working so hard on his literacy skills and has made such great progress in sharing his ideas through writing.

It has been so lovely to watch his confidence grow as he finds new ways to express himself.

Alongside his literacy goals, he also brings so much creativity to our group sessions. He always has interesting ideas to share, and we love seeing the imagination he brings to our activities.

Is your child starting school in 2027?

Our Ready, Set, Grow transition-to-school group is designed to help children feel more confident, capable and prepared as they get ready for big school.

Through fun, play-based sessions, children will have opportunities to practise important school readiness skills, including social interaction, following routines, early learning concepts, independence and confidence in a supportive small-group environment.

Ready, Set, Grow runs on Mondays from 9:30–10:30am.

Spaces are limited and bookings are essential.

Read3 is one of the programs we offer at Embrace to support children who may need a more individualised and encouraging approach to literacy.

For some children, reading can start to feel frustrating, tiring, or like something they are failing at. We know how quickly that can impact confidence, not just in literacy, but in learning more broadly.

Our goal with Read3 is to create a space where children feel supported, understood, and able to engage with literacy in a way that feels more manageable.

If you have been wondering whether your child might benefit from some extra literacy support, Read3 may be a helpful place to start.

♻️✨ Recycling Sensory Tray ✨♻️

This sensory tray was such a fun one to put together, and a really easy, low-cost way to create something engaging using leftover bits and pieces we had around the clinic.

The trucks were definitely a highlight, with lots of collecting, scooping, sorting, and moving rubbish from one place to another.

Jane has a bit of a gift for turning even the simplest materials into something that feels magical!

Neurodivergent is an umbrella term often used to describe people whose brains work, learn, process and experience the world differently.

This can include a wide range of diagnoses, experiences, and ways of being, some of which we’ve listed in this visual.

Of course, no two people are the same, and no umbrella term can capture every person’s experience. But language like this can still be helpful in giving people a way to better understand themselves and feel less alone.

It can be hard to keep thinking of activities to do at home, especially when you want something that doesn’t need a lot of preparation.

If you’re looking for an easy sensory activity, these two-ingredient recipes are a great way to explore different textures and play at home.

You can add colour if you want, but it’s not essential. The fun is often in the mixing, squishing, scooping, pouring, and seeing what happens next.

So many people have grown up hearing that they are overreacting, when really they are overwhelmed.

When we describe someone as overreacting, it can make the problem sound like the person. It places the focus on the size of our response rather than what may be happening underneath it. Overwhelm tells a different story. It reminds us that there is often a reason something feels too much.

People are not choosing to struggle just to make a fuss. Often, they are doing their best to cope with something that feels bigger in their body or brain than it might look from the outside.

Overwhelm is not a character flaw. It is information. And the more thoughtfully we respond to that information, the more likely we are to create safety, understanding, and regulation.

Independence is something we all want for our children. We want them to feel confident, capable, and able to navigate the world in their own way.

But we often see the idea that using supports will stop this from happening. That if we help too much, children won’t learn to do things on their own.

In reality, it’s often the opposite.

Support isn’t the opposite of independence. For many children, it’s the bridge that helps them get there.

And the truth is, none of us are ever fully independent. We all rely on someone or something to help us move through the world, whether that is people, routines, reminders, tools, technology, or the environments around us.

When children have the right supports in place, things feel more manageable. They can practise skills, build confidence, and begin to do more for themselves over time.

Independence doesn’t come from removing support. It grows from having the right support, at the right time.

✨ Resource Share: Spot It ✨

Spot It is a fast-paced matching game we love using at Embrace. It looks simple, but underneath there are so many important skills being practised.

Here are a few ways we’ve used Spot It recently:

Describing our Match
Instead of just naming the match, we encourage children to describe it. “I found the small green cactus!”

Tongs Challenge
When children find a match, they use tongs to pick up their winning cards, adding a fun fine motor element.

Memory Round
We’ve played a version where children look at their card for 20 seconds, then flip it over and try to remember their symbols to find a match. This one is definitely a challenge, but great for building working memory.

Have Spot It at home? Try these ideas:

Movement Match
Place the cards on opposite sides of the room so children need to run between them to find the match.

Cooperative Mode
Work together to find the match instead of racing. Great for siblings who find competition tricky.
