Have you seen our Bigfoot evidence on display in the South Coast Cabinet of Curiosities? 🫈👣

Across continents and generations, stories persist of something moving just beyond certainty. Not myth alone… but something leaving traces behind.

Footprints. Casts. Impressions in the ground that show weight, movement, and structure. Not imagined but recorded.

The prints displayed here, including the Patterson-Gimlin track, the Titmus cast, and the work of researchers like Dr. Jeff Meldrum and Cliff Barackman present a question that has not been fully answered.

The mid-tarsal flexibility seen in some casts suggests a form of locomotion unlike modern humans, yet not entirely unlike our distant ancestors.

From North America to Southeast Asia, similar accounts emerge. The Orang Pendek - smaller, elusive, but sharing traits that echo across regions.

Alongside these are books, field research, and documented investigations. Attempts to understand.

This section does not ask you to believe.
It asks you to look.

Because the question is not just “is it real?”

Have you seen our Keichousaurus? 🎪🗝️

Have you ever heard of a Keichousaurus (kye-cho-sore-us)?

Long before tales of sea serpents and the legendary Loch Ness Monster stirred the imagination, creatures like Keichousaurus glided through the ancient seas.

At around 230 million years old, this remarkable marine reptile swam the oceans over 100 million years before the great plesiosaurs that would later inspire generations of maritime myths. With its long neck, paddle-like limbs and dragon-like silhouette, it’s easy to see why such creatures continue to blur the line between science and legend.

This small fossil is a window into a world so ancient it predates the first dinosaurs. A reminder that some of the strangest creatures ever known were not born from folklore, but from the deep and distant past itself.

CIRCUS TRUTH

Not everything that can hold weight should hold an aerialist.

We’ve seen a growing trend of young people arriving with experience from home aerial setups attached to residential roofs or using equipment purchased online, having watched videos on social media.

Aerial arts are not simply “hanging from something.” Bodies swing, generate momentum and create dynamic forces that can place loads far greater than a person’s body weight onto equipment and structures. Residential roofs are generally not designed for these forces, and a lot of equipment sold online is not properly safety rated for circus use.

We know some people think we are overly cautious.

We aren’t.

At South Coast Circus we place safety and progression before shortcuts and before tricks. We do not endorse home aerial setups attached to residential structures.

Circus magic is built on discipline, training and trust. The strongest foundations are often the ones nobody notices.

For students wanting extra training time, we offer supervised open training sessions for just $10 because no trick is worth a preventable injury.

The stories were never quite as they seemed.

Beneath the castles and enchanted forests lurked wolves, witches, dragons, tricksters and creatures that refused to stay within the pages of their tales.

This June, South Coast Circus celebrates six years within the ring with a birthday spectacular unlike any before.

Long before television, before cinemas, and before the internet placed the whole world in our pockets, people gathered beneath canvas tents to witness the impossible 🎪🗝️

Among the giants, strongmen, sword swallowers and fire-eaters sat a creature that became one of the most famous curiosities in circus history… the legendary Feejee Mermaid 🧜‍♀️

Part sideshow attraction, part practical joke, part work of art, the Feejee Mermaid blurred the line between fact and fiction. Audiences would enter believing they were about to see proof of a hidden world, and leave debating what they had witnessed for years afterwards.

That is the true power of a curiosity.

Not certainty.

Wonder.

The South Coast Mermaid now watches over our Cabinet of Curiosities, continuing a tradition that stretches back through old carnival midways, travelling museums, curiosity cabinets, and the golden age of the circus.

Is it real?

Well… perhaps that is entirely the wrong question 😉

The better question is why, after nearly two centuries, creatures like this still capture our imagination?

Maybe because deep down, we all want there to be something left to discover.

Something strange.

Something mysterious.

Something that makes us question what we know.

THE LONGEST NIGHT RETURNS…

When the sun hangs lowest and the ancient dark stretches across the land, the firekeepers gather once more.

On the night of the Winter Solstice, South Coast Circus returns to Kick Back Brewing to awaken the flames beneath the cold June sky.

The ring of fire will burn again with spinning staffs, blazing circles, sparks cast into the night air, and the wild energy of the old circus paths carried through smoke and ember.

For centuries, solstice fires were lit to defy the darkness…to summon warmth, courage, story, and tribe 🎪🔥
