The GROUND Method starts with G — Ground.

Not because grounding is the simplest step.
Because nothing else can happen without it.

When the nervous system doesn't feel *safe,* the deeper work — the regulation, the observation, the integration — can't land.

The body is too busy scanning for threat.

So before strategy, before clarity, before change:

Ground first.
Safety first.

Everything else follows from there.

**A 60-second practice to try now:**

Feet flat on the floor.
Let your eyes slowly scan the room — not searching, just noticing.
Name 3 things you can see that feel neutral or safe.
One slow breath, longer exhale than inhale.
That's it. That's the beginning.

There's something that happens in the Grounded Calm space that I didn't fully anticipate when we started.

People arrive. They share what's been happening in their body, their week, their nervous system.

And then, even before I say anything, they say: oh. That's what that was.

Something about being in a room with other people doing the same work makes the work easier to hold.

That's the thing I keep watching.

When I follow a belief all the way down in a session — past the behaviour, past the explanation, past the story — here's what's usually waiting at the basement.

I'm not lovable.
And if I'm not lovable, I'll be alone.

That belief runs a lot of behaviour.
Shopping.
Relationships.
Over-giving.
Self-denial.
Perfectionism.
All of it.

The entry point is always something small.
A spice rack she hadn't bought.
A pair of pants that didn't fit.
A holiday she'd been putting off.

The work goes deep.
And it changes things.

This is the work I do.

That's what regulation actually looks like.

Not a perfect week.
Not all the circumstances finally going your way.

The same pressures, the same family, the same weather—
And a body that isn't bracing against all of it anymore.

It surprises people when it happens.

They expected to feel better when things got easier.
Instead — things got easier because they felt better.

That's the work.

Here's the belief chain hiding underneath that:

→ "I'm wasting money"
→ "I'm being selfish"
→ "If I'm selfish, I'm a bad person"
→ "If I'm a bad person, I'm not lovable"
→ "If I'm not lovable, I'll be alone"

That's not a budgeting issue.
That's a nervous system story running in the
background of every financial decision you make.

The surface behaviour is never the whole story.
The basement belief is what's running the show.

This is the work we do.
Not the surface behaviour — the root belief.
And when the root shifts, everything above it
shifts with it.

She came in like always.
Same work pressure, same relationship dynamics, same external life.

But something had shifted.
Her business coach had noticed.
Her partner had noticed.
She had noticed, but wasn't quite ready to trust it yet.

Same life. Different nervous system.

That's what real regulation looks like.
Not fixing the circumstances.
Changing how the body moves through them.

Guilt closes the heart.

And it doesn't just lock away the "bad."
It locks away joy too.

A lot of people live with guilt as a background hum:
→ I should have done more.
→ I shouldn't feel this.
→ I'm not enough.

But guilt isn't a verdict.
It's often a protection strategy.

The nervous system saying:
"If I punish myself first, maybe I'll be safe."

Try this:
Hand on heart.
Long exhale.

And say:
I did the best I could with the information I had.

Notice what softens.

That's not a character flaw.
That's protection.

For some nervous systems, visibility reads as danger.
So the body goes into freeze — to keep you safe.

A tiny reset you can try before you speak:
→ feel your feet
→ soften your tongue and jaw
→ find one neutral point in the room
→ exhale longer than you inhale

You're not trying to be confident.
You're trying to feel safe.

There's a difference. And it matters.

When safety drops, interpretation gets darker.

Suddenly you're scanning for:
proof you're too much
proof you're not enough
proof you're being judged

It's not because you're broken.
It's because your nervous system is in protection mode.

Try this:
1. Name it: "My safety dropped."
2. Orient: 5 things you can see.
3. Exhale longer than you inhale.

Then ask: what's the neutral explanation here?

Safety first.
Then clarity.

If being seen feels unsafe…
If you shrink, apologise, over-explain…

Your system is trying to keep you safe.
There is nothing wrong with you.
