It’s not just for labour, an exercise ball can become your go-to during pregnancy for comfort and gentle movement.

Comfier than the couch (sometimes!) and a simple way to keep your pelvis moving. Think gentle circles, rocking and swaying to encourage mobility through the pelvis and hips for later on.

Get to know Dr. Tonilee

In the clinic, I’m passionate about helping others. Whether it’s supporting patients to reach their health goals or helping our team behind the scenes, I’m driven by better outcomes for everyone I work with.

I’m also a bit of an anatomy nerd 🤓 I love understanding how the body functions from the brain down, and you’ll often find me at seminars covering everything from sport, to mums & bubs, to neurology.

Outside of the clinic, I like the simple things. Slow mornings, a walk with Murphy 🐾, and a matcha with my partner Brad to start the day.

Right now, my latest side mission is qualifying for the HYROX World Championships in Sweden 🇸🇪 Where Brad and I will be racing in the mixed doubles this June.

Blending my love for health, fitness, and travel is something I’m truly grateful for.

And it all means a little more after my cancer journey in 2023—I’m proud that this is my comeback 😌

Recently in practice, we have noticed an influx of people coming in for calf tightness. Maybe it’s because the Melbourne Marathon event has just taken place and everyone has taken up running, or maybe it’s because summer is just around the corner and people are becoming more active. Or is it because our nervous systems are in fight or flight mode, ready to flee?

Either way, here are our three go-to exercises that we have been giving our patients:

1. Double Leg Eccentric Calf Raise over a step: 2 seconds up, 5 seconds down, 3 sets of 6 reps (strengthening the muscle in the lengthened position).
2. Downward Dog, pedalling your feet down: 3 sets of 12 reps (dynamic stretch).
3. Bunny Hops: 3 sets of 30 seconds to a metronome at 160-180 BPM (the Achilles tendon loves spring).
