Always wonderful catching up with this beautiful person. The only downside is that we never get enough time πŸ₯²

I don't normally post reviews about where I stay, but Gaby who runs was both an amazingly hospitable and informative host.
Her house is a museum of her travels which makes for so many wonderful stories to share πŸ₯°
She even offers home cooked meals AND teaches Mexican cooking classes using traditional family recipes!

And guess what? The food that WE all see as tacos, aren't actually traditional Mexican tacos! They're covered in cheese and home made salsa, but the third pic is what traditional Mexican tacos actually look like!

If you're ever staying in Redcliffe, or if you're a local and qant to learn some traditional cooking, please do go look her up and get in contact.
Personally, as someone who travels a LOT for work and has previously had rather unsavoury experiences in Queensland, Gaby definitely went above and beyond in making me feel welcome 😁

Other special highlights:

I got to hold a Barn Owl while wearing the sigil of the Goblin King! 😁😎
This is Nyra (much friendlier than the Tyto Queen in The Guardians of Ga'Hoole), from 😁

And the Green Man who piped and danced his way through the event, sometimes with a line of followers!

And the FIRST Dungeon Crawler Carl cosplay I've seen 😁

Special mentions to the person who asked for my name and favourite word (I'm clearly not afraid of Fey traps... though to be fair, I gave a word that lives rent free in my head rather than a favourite) and that lovely person who I had a fantastic conversation about literary commentary with 😁

Thank you to everyone who came and supported us at 's first ever Fairies and Folklore event!

It was an amazing time away meeting so many new connections and getting to catch up with several other vendors that I don't normally get to see at most of my other events.
And listening to an instrumental version of Golden Brown repeatedly throughout the day 🀣 (apparently it's one of the unofficial renfaire anthems? That song, and the Stranglers in general, was definitely NOT this popular when I first got into it after watching He Died with a Felafel in his Hand back in high school πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ )

And a special hearty thanks to Liz and Phil from who helped make this weekend happen!

Out of all the popular names that get thrown around on the news, I can count on one hand the ones I personally deem worth knowing.
This guy was one of them.

World renowned melanoma pathologist and former Australian of the Year, Professor Richard Scolyer has died aged 59 after his valiant battle with brain cancer.

Scolyer helped accelerate new cancer treatments by becoming patient zero in a bold, experimental approach to treat his own tumour, fighting the disease for almost three years.

In an open letter he asked to be published after his death, Scolyer said he hoped to be remembered as "a proud everyday Aussie who "gave it a crack", and in doing so, inspired others to pursue their dreams and passions with humility, love and compassion."
