Myth: If your period comes, everything is fine.

A bleed doesn’t always mean ovulation occurred.

You can have a regular cycle and still have:
* Inconsistent ovulation
* Low progesterone
* Suboptimal timing

I often see:
* Relying on apps (which predict, not confirm ovulation)
* Assuming day 14 ovulation
* Not tracking cervical mucus or confirming ovulation
* Missing the actual fertile window entirely

This is one of the first things I assess with clients.
Once ovulation is confirmed, everything else becomes more targeted.

One thing I’ve learnt in my 20s and 30s is that my body speaks long before my mind catches up.

At the time, I thought I was just “busy” or stressed.

But looking back, I noticed:
• more painful periods
• acne flare-ups
• nervous system tension
• bloating
• feeling emotionally unsettled in my body

And while not every symptom is caused by a relationship, I do think our physiology reflects the environments we live in — including relational ones.

For me, fertility health has become about so much more than pregnancy.

It’s vitality.
Safety.
Peace in my body.
Feeling regulated.
Feeling clear.

I’m fitter, healthier and more connected to myself now than I was in my 20s.

And I’ve realised the “right” relationship for me isn’t just emotional — it’s something my body feels too.

Not perfect.
Not anxiety-free.
But safe.
Grounded.
Steady.

This isn’t about fear or blaming symptoms on one person. It’s about learning to listen to ourselves earlier. Because sometimes the body whispers before it screams.

11 things I stopped doing as a Fertility & Prenatal dietitian slowly but assuring that helped balance my hormones (and gut) naturally. It wasn’t a quick change. I had resistance to many. I started small changes. Naturally, you build. 

Comment ‘balance’ for 9, 10 & 11

If I choose egg freezing — I’m not rushing into it.

I’m giving myself the gift of time. Here’s why; Eggs take ~90 days to develop.

Which means the 3 months leading into egg freezing matter.

What you eat, drink, how you move, sleep, and manage stress → all influence the environment your eggs develop in.

And if you’re going to invest in the process,
it’s worth supporting your body to freeze your best eggs.

A few key things to focus on:
• Omega-3 intake (2–3 serves oily fish/week — salmon, sardines, tuna) Note: barramundi is not considered an oily fish
• CoQ10 supplementation — supports mitochondrial energy production in the egg
(shown in studies to support egg quality, particularly in women with reduced ovarian reserve)
• Antioxidant-rich foods daily — berries, herbs, colourful vegetables
• Fibre + vegetables (most women under-eat these)→ aim for ~2.5 cups/day + leafy greens
• Protein distributed across the day + stable blood sugar
• Reducing alcohol (for best outcomes, removing it completely)

You can’t change egg quantity —
but you can influence quality.

If you have underlying conditions like:
endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS, gut issues or are working on weight loss → give yourself 4–6 months where possible

Even 5–10% weight loss can significantly improve egg quality.
