💛 ADULT CRIME, ADULT TIME – WHEN DID WE BECOME A NO-FAULT SOCIETY?
I’ve recently been contacted by someone who has followed our fight for justice for Biddy.
They reached out because their young cousin was recently the victim of a violent group bashing right here in Newcastle, my hometown.
This hits particularly close to home.
Another young person hurt, potentially more young victims, and families left dealing with the physical and emotional consequences of violence.
As Biddy’s father, I know all too well the devastation violent crime leaves behind and the lifelong impact it has on victims and their families.
I’ve made my position clear before, and I’ll say it again. Adult crime deserves adult time.
Somewhere along the way, we have created and accepted a no-fault society.
Too often, we see excuses being made for violent behaviour instead of people being held accountable for their actions.
Mental illness deserves genuine understanding and support, but it should never be used as a convenient excuse to avoid accountability.
Understanding someone’s behaviour doesn’t mean excusing it.
I know firsthand the devastating impact mental illness can have on someone’s life, and I will always advocate for those genuinely suffering.
But when mental health is used to excuse violent behaviour without genuine justification, it does a disservice to those living with mental illness who desperately need understanding, treatment and support.
Mental illness deserves compassion. Serious violent crime demands accountability. The two are not mutually exclusive.
I believe in rehabilitation, but rehabilitation cannot come at the expense of community safety, justice or the rights of victims.
Age should not automatically shield someone from serious consequences when they commit serious violent crimes.
We need to stop making excuses for violence.
We need to stop allowing the rights and circumstances of offenders to overshadow the suffering of victims.
Our children deserve protection. Victims deserve a voice. And violent offenders must be held accountable.
This is why I’m sharing a petition calling for stronger youth crime laws in NSW.
It aligns with the values I’ve been fighting for through Justice4Biddy: meaningful accountability, stronger protection for our children and a justice system that gives victims and their families the consideration they deserve.
This fight has never been just about Biddy.
It’s about preventing other families from experiencing the devastation that ours continues to live with.
This is what Justice4Biddy is all about. Creating a community that will stand strong and proud beside a family in their time of need.
A community that doesn’t turn its back when another family is hurting. A community willing to stand together and demand change.
This is what Biddy would expect of her Daddy. 💛
And if everything we’ve been through can help another family feel supported, heard and less alone, then that’s exactly what I intend to do.

💛 PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE THIS PETITION FAR AND WIDE.
Let’s show this family they are not standing alone. The Justice4Biddy community stands beside them.
Every signature helps demonstrate that the community wants change.
To the young victim, any others affected, and their families, I’m sending love and strength. Nobody should have to experience what you’re going through.
We cannot keep waiting until another child is seriously injured or killed before demanding meaningful reform.
There must be consequences for actions. There must be accountability for violence. And there must be justice for victims.
One foot in front of the other. 💛👣
