🎀 Is your breast screen on your to-do list?

Breast screening can find cancer early—before it can be seen or felt.

BreastScreen Queensland offers free breast screening to eligible women aged 40 and over who have no breast symptoms. Women aged 50–74 are encouraged to screen every two years.

No GP referral is needed.

If you have noticed a new lump or another breast change, please book with your GP rather than waiting for a routine breast screen.

One appointment could make an important difference. 💗

🌱🐥 Spring has sprung on the Caines farm!

Life outside the Hub is rarely quiet in the Caines household, and spring has turned the volume up another notch! 😂

We’re currently up to 24 ducklings (plus a growing collection of chicks 🐣) and the kids are loving every minute of it.

Because apparently three kids, a farm and a medical practice isn’t keeping us busy enough…

Now we just need names — 24 ducklings means plenty of naming rights up for grabs! 🦆👇

💚 A quick update on new patient bookings

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, Atherton Health Hub has grown significantly—and we have now reached our current capacity.

To make sure we can continue providing timely care to our existing patients, we are not accepting new patient bookings at this time. We hope to increase our capacity again in 2027.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has chosen and supported our practice. Please follow our page or website for future updates.

💗 Know what’s normal for you - DO-NUT FORGET TO CHECK YOUR BREASTS (Shout out to Doin Doughnuts for the great props!!)

You don’t need a special technique to be breast aware. Simply becoming familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel can help you notice a change.

Changes to speak to your GP about include:

• A new lump or lumpiness
• A change in breast size or shape
• Redness, puckering or dimpling of the skin
• Ni**le crusting, discharge or inversion
• Unusual pain that doesn’t go away

Nine out of ten breast changes are not cancer—but every new or unusual change deserves to be checked.

If something doesn’t feel right, please don’t wait. Book an appointment with your GP.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

Atherton Health Hub has turned pink to help shine a light on breast cancer awareness, early detection and the life-saving research happening across Australia.

Every day, 56 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer and nine people lose their lives to the disease.

This year, we’re joining the call to be “Pink Heroes”—starting conversations, sharing reliable information and encouraging the people we care about to look after their breast health.

Throughout October, we’ll be sharing some simple reminders that could make a very real difference. 💗

Congratulations to Dr Bruce Taylor, who has officially become an Australian citizen!

Originally hailing from Scotland, Bruce is now completing his GP training with us here at Atherton Health Hub—and we’re very lucky to have him as part of the team.

We’re sure he’ll always be proudly Scottish at heart, but today we’re celebrating his exciting new chapter as an Australian citizen. Congratulations, Bruce!

💚 Every Second Counts 💚

Following Dan and Lauren’s fantastic weekend volunteering at the Cairns Cardiac Challenge, we’re keeping the momentum going with the next stage of Atherton Health Hub’s Every Second Counts project.

Every 15 minutes, someone in Australia experiences a cardiac arrest. When CPR is started and a defibrillator is used within the first three to five minutes, survival rates can increase to 60–70%.

We’re inviting local community groups to submit an Expression of Interest to receive a fully funded and maintained defibrillator.

Whether you’re a sporting club, community organisation or local group, having a defibrillator nearby could make all the difference when every second counts.

Together, we can place more life-saving equipment throughout the Tablelands and help build a safer, stronger community. Please contact Lauren Caines (Practice Manager) Atherton Health Hub for EOI details.

What a weekend! 🚴‍♀️💚

Dan and Lauren swapped the clinic for the open road, volunteering as es**rt vehicle drivers for the Cairns to Cooktown Cardiac Challenge.

It was three fantastic days filled with plenty of laughs, beautiful scenery and wonderful connections—all while supporting a cause that makes a real difference to cardiac care across Far North Queensland.

A huge congratulations to the riders, volunteers, organisers and supporters who made the weekend so special. We loved being part of it and are already looking forward to next year!
