Guess what season it is??
Pine pollen season!!
The new buds set free their little fibrous cloaks and burst forth, fat and ripe with pollen to spread their seed in the summer.
Pine pollen is rich in phyto androgens, which are considered almost bio identical with testosterone, DHEA, and androstenadione. This means it can be used as a hormone support, particularly in menopausal or perimenopausal women, who find they may have lower androgens, or oestrogen which causes low libido, low motivation and weight gain.
It also is an excellent support for adrenal dysfunction or sympathetic dominance leading to depleted cortisol levels after long periods of stress. DHEA is needed in the adrenal glands to make cortisol.
The pollen also has a full essential amino acid profile, and contains zinc, magnesium, vitamin E, Vitamin D, and many more. It also contains heaps of antioxidants to counteract inflammation.
Yes, it is hard to find enough to fill a jar to sustain you, and always harvest responsibly, but you can find medicine in your locality, and it is possible. I would recommend taking a bag and scissors, and putting some of the pine flowers into the bag and shaking off all the pollen. The other way is to put the bag around the flower on the plant. This way they still can mature.
