BACK TO BASIC HEALTH #3-FOOD FOR HEALTH

It can be kept simple when broken down into 4 parts: protein, smart carbs, starchy/ sugar carbs and fat.

We consume foods to nourish our bodies: muscles health, hormone balance, bones, brain,….. It provides us with good fat, essential amino acids, energy, vitamins and minerals. Maintaining health and healthy weight can be influenced by the food we consume.

As a rule of thumb, always plan your meals around protein. For each meal, start with at least 30g protein of your choice. As for carbs, starchy carb provides energy and depending on the individual’s goal it could be 30g, more or less. Fiber carbs as much as you want or can, always a little bit of healthy fats.
MINIMUM 1g PROTEIN/KG TO 1.6KG/DAY.

PROTEIN
-helps build, repair, and maintain tissues throughout the body.
-Supports growth – Essential for children, teenagers, and during pregnancy.
-Keeps you full longer – Protein helps reduce hunger, which may support healthy weight management.
-Strengthens bones
-Boosts the immune system – Many antibodies and immune cells are made from proteins.
-Supports healthy skin, hair, and nails – Protein provides the building blocks for collagen and keratin.
-Helps make enzymes and hormones
-can Provides energy – While carbohydrates and fats are the body’s main energy sources, protein can also be used for energy when needed.

Good examples: Chicken, turkey, fish, and lean meat, eggs, Milk, Greek yogurt and cheese, beans, lentils, and chickpeas, tofu and soy products, nuts and seeds

SMART CARBS
Means carbohydrate foods that provide more nutrition and slower, steadier energy.

Good examples: most non starchy vegetables ( broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, avocado, mushroom, capsicum, celery,……

STARCHY/SUGARY CARBS
Foods that contain a significant amount of starch, which your body can break down into glucose for energy. Depending on the individual’s weight or energy goal the amount of it per meal would range from 30g more or less.

Good examples: white potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, corn, brown rice, oats, quinoa, bread, pasta, lentils, fruits. Always best to avoid common white starchy carbs and chose brown rice, wholemeal,….

HEALTHY FATS
Mainly unsaturated fats, which are important for hormones, brain function, cell membranes and absorption of vitamins A, D, E and K.

Good examples: EVOO, avocado, nuts, chia seeds, h**p seeds, pumpkin seeds, tahini,…

For best health, consume wholefoods and plan your meals around protein adding carbs to your needs and always good fats.

ENJOY YOUR MEAL 😃

BACK TO BASIC HEALTH #2- SLEEP!

Often under rated or not a priority, sleep is best remedy for repair, recovery and so much more AND can be FREE!

For most people, 6.5 to 8 hours sleep/night is the recommended average. Constantly less or more may contribute to underlying disease. Children, teenagers, unwell person, 1st trimester baring mother often require up to 10 hours.

BUT WHAT DOES SLEEP DO?
In TCM (traditional Chinese medecine) , each organ of the body has its hour of recovery/repair at a specific hour while we sleep called the ‘organ clock’.

9–11 pm Triple Burner (San Jiao) Relaxation, circulation, preparation for sleep
11 pm–1 am Gallbladder Decision-making, bile function, restoration
1–3 am Liver Detoxification, blood storage, metabolic processing
3–5 am Lungs Respiration, qi, emotional processing
5–7 am Large intestine Elimination/bowel movement

In western medicine, we call it ‘ circadian rhythms’.

9 pm–11 pm Melatonin rises; body prepares for sleep
11 pm–2 am Deep sleep is often prominent; growth hormone secretion increases
12–4 am Liver metabolism and glucose regulation continue, influenced by the circadian clock
2–4 am Body temperature is near its daily low; sleep pressure is high
3–5 am Cortisol begins gradually rising toward morning
5–7 am Cortisol rises further; body prepares for waking
6–8 am Blood pressure and heart rate generally begin increasing after waking

DID YOU KNOW

-Can assist with weight loss

BACK TO BASIC HEALTH #1

** the key to longevity: MOVEMENT!*

Our bodies are made to move.
Use it or lose it 🚶‍♀️‍➡️🏃‍♂️‍➡️
Within your abilities, MOVE YOUR BODY DAILY.

INCORPORATE IT IN YOUR DAY

With the busyness of our lives, we often get everything done but forget one thing. MOVE

Movement increases mobility of the joints, assist lymphatic system, increases blood flow to peripheral area, burns calories, uses glucose for muscles engagement, sooth the soul, increases breath expansion and oxygen delivery.

BUT HOW?
Some ways I have found to increase movement as PART of my daily routine:

-Park your vehicle furthest away from where you are going
-Use the stairs instead of elevator
-get off at a train, tram or bus station that is 1 stop before the one you usually get off and walk it. Listen to music or podcast and walk to work or studies. Increase your speed and make it a challenge. Get a backpack for your things.
-take the dog for a walk
-put the baby in the pram and walk to your close location or go for walk instead of driving
-if working at your desk, put a reminder to stand up on the hour, move your legs, move your arms
-at lunch, it’s easy to sit down to decompress, take few minutes and go out for a walk. It will energise you naturally

PUT IN THE COMMENTS WAYS YOU HAVE FOUND TO INCORPORATE MOVEMENT IN YOUR DAY AND HELP OTHERS ☺️
