💚 POWER HALF HOUR IS BACK!

Power Half Hour kicked off on Monday at the beautiful time of 6:30 am. 😂

And the class starts a little like the Melbourne Cup.

Everyone arrives. People take their places. There might be a little nervous chatter. You look around wondering what you’ve signed yourself up for…

And then there’s Loretta.

Smiling. Calm. Completely unbothered.

Which is exactly when you realise she has planned, prepared and knows exactly what she is about to put you through.

That smile tells you everything:

You are about to get a bloody good workout.

Power Half Hour is short, purposeful and a great way to get moving before most of the day has even started.

There’s effort, encouragement, a few looks across the room that say “whose idea was this?” — and plenty of laughs along the way.

Then suddenly the half hour is done.

You’ve exercised, survived Loretta’s smile…and it’s still only early morning. 😂💚

A wonderful start to bringing Power Half Hour back to Green Apple.

COURAGE. COMMUNITY. INTEGRITY.

Three simple words, but they can mean a great deal.

Courage isn't always something dramatic.

Sometimes courage is walking through the door for the first time when you're nervous. It's starting again after illness, surgery or a difficult period. It's admitting something has become harder and asking for help. It's continuing to work on yourself when progress feels slow.

Community is what happens when we don't have to do those things alone.

It's knowing someone's name. Noticing when they haven't been around. Sharing a laugh. Encouraging someone who's having a difficult day. Celebrating progress that might seem small to everyone else but means everything to that person.

And then there is integrity.

Integrity is what we do when nobody is watching. It's treating people with respect, doing what we say we will do, being willing to admit when we get something wrong, and choosing what is right even when what is right isn't always the easiest option.

For more than four decades, Green Apple has seen a lot change.

People have changed. Programs have changed. Equipment has certainly changed.

But some things should never go out of fashion.

The courage to keep going.
The community to help each other along the way.
And the integrity to treat every person with dignity and respect.

Those are values worth protecting. 💚

💚 THROWBACK TUESDAY — LET’S GO BACK TO 1996!

Have a good look at these photos.

The clothes, the hairstyles, the runners, the outdoor setting…and plenty of familiar Green Apple laughter.

It was 1996.

The Macarena was everywhere, CDs and cassette tapes were still part of everyday life, Blue Heelers, Neighbours, Home and Away and Hey Hey It’s Saturday were on our televisions, and dial-up internet was only beginning to find its way into Australian homes.

Here in Queensland, the Brisbane Bears and Fitzroy were coming together to form the Brisbane Lions.

Across Australia, John Howard became Prime Minister, while the tragedy at Port Arthur led to changes that would become an important part of Australian history.

And meanwhile, at Green Apple...

People were moving, exercising outdoors, talking, laughing and spending time together.

Nearly 30 years later, that's probably the part of these photographs we love most.

So much around us has changed since 1996.

The technology has changed.
The fashion has definitely changed. 😂
The music has changed.

But people still need movement, friendship, laughter and somewhere they feel they belong.

Now we need our long-time Green Apple members to help us with the history.

Who do you recognise in these photos?

What was happening on this day?

And here's the big one...

What do YOU remember most about 1996? 💚

💚 **I FINALLY GOT IT, DANIEL! YESSSS! 😂**

A few months ago, we were lucky enough to have the incredibly talented **Daniel Thompson** come back to Green Apple and speak at one of our Tuesday staff meetings.

Daniel has gone on to do some pretty impressive things, and listening to him that morning, you could understand why.

But there was one thing he said that stuck.

He asked us to think about the difference between being **NICE** and being **KIND**.

At the time I thought I understood it.

Turns out… I didn't. 😂

Because sometimes someone can explain something to you beautifully, you nod along thinking, *“Yes, yes, I understand,”* and then months later life hands you the actual lesson.

And suddenly...

**CLICK.**

I GOT IT.

Being nice can sometimes be saying what makes the moment comfortable.

Being kind can mean caring enough to do what genuinely helps — even when it isn't necessarily the easiest conversation or the most comfortable thing to hear.

And when that penny finally dropped, I immediately thought:

**DANIEL! THAT'S WHAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT! 😂**

Some lessons don't finish when the meeting finishes.

They sit quietly in the back of your mind until life gives them meaning.

Daniel, it may have taken me a few months...

**but I was listening. 😂💚**

💚☕ **SOMETIMES SUPPORTING LOCAL IS AS SIMPLE AS SAYING — WE THINK YOU’RE GREAT.**

We talk a lot at Green Apple about community, and community doesn't stop at our front door.

One of our local favorite is **Ahoy Coffee**.

Great coffee, really yummy food and, just as importantly, a local place where people can sit down, have a conversation and enjoy being together.

We believe small local businesses help give a suburb its personality. They're the places we bump into familiar faces, catch up with friends and gradually become part of each other's lives.

So today there is **no promotion and nothing we're asking Ahoy for**.

We wanted to give a shout-out to a local business we enjoy and say:

**If you haven't discovered Ahoy yet, give them a try.** ☕💚

Because if we're going to talk about supporting community, we should also practice it.

And from Green Apple to Ahoy — **we think your coffee is pretty hard to beat!** 😄☕

💚 COMMUNITY. RESPECT. A SAFE ZONE. OPEN.

These aren't just words to us.

Community means knowing the person beside you, noticing when someone hasn't been in, sharing a laugh and feeling that you belong.

Respect means understanding that every person who walks through our doors has a different body, a different story and a different reason for being here.

A safe zone means you don't have to be the strongest, the youngest, the fastest or the most confident person in the room.

And open means more than our open-air environment.

It means open to different ages. Different abilities. Different health journeys. Different starting points.

No judgement about where you are today.

Just support for where you would like to go next.

After more than four decades, equipment has changed, exercise has changed, and Green Apple has changed.

But perhaps the things that matter most haven't.

People need somewhere they feel safe enough to start, respected enough to be themselves and connected enough to keep coming back.

That's the Green Apple we want to protect. 💚

“AT YOUR AGE, MAYBE YOU SHOULD SLOW DOWN.”

We hear comments like this so often that we can forget what they imply.

Too old to start exercising.
Too old to become stronger.
Too old to learn something new.
Too old to change.

There is a word for it: ageism.

Ageism is not just about being rude to older people. It is the stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination we direct towards people — and sometimes ourselves — simply because of age.

And its consequences can be serious.

Ageism has been associated with poorer physical and mental health, depression, social isolation, loneliness, reduced quality of life and even earlier death.

Perhaps one of the most damaging sentences we can tell ourselves is:

“I'm too old for that.”

At Green Apple, we would rather ask:

“What would you still like to be able to do?”

Then work from there. 💚

Getting older is a fact of life.

Being written off because of it shouldn't be.
