Emotional safety doesn’t mean our kids are happy, calm or regulated all the time. What it means is they know they can bring all the messy stuff to us…
The anger. The mistakes. The tears. The overwhelm. The big reactions. The moments when they’re really not at their best.
And underneath it all, they still know without a shadow of a doubt:-
I am loved
I am safe to be myself
My big feelings are allowed
I can get things wrong
I can say no
And when things go sideways, we can always find our way back to each other
We need to be realistic, we won’t get this right every time. But our kids don’t need perfect parents. They need connection, curiosity, boundaries and repair, again and again and again.
And most of all, a safe space where they never have to become a smaller, quieter or easier version of themselves just to belong and feel loved.
