🩷Things Parents of Children with Disabilities Need to Stop Apologising For 🩷
If you're raising a child with a disability, autism, developmental delay, intellectual disability, or additional needs, this is your reminder:
You do not owe the world an apology for your child's disability.
Stop apologising for:
✨ Your child making noise when they are overwhelmed.
✨ Leaving an event early because your child has reached their limit.
✨ Using accommodations, support workers, therapy, assistive technology or mobility aids.
✨ Your child stimming, fidgeting, flapping, rocking or self-regulating.
✨ Taking longer to get from A to B.
✨ Saying "no" to invitations that aren't accessible or inclusive.
✨ Advocating fiercely for your child's rights.
✨ Having a different parenting journey than others.
✨ Needing rest, support and a break for yourself.
✨ Cancelling plans because your family needs to prioritise wellbeing.
✨ Your child communicating differently.
✨ Your child not meeting society's expectations or milestones on someone else's timeline.
✨ Asking questions, requesting adjustments or challenging systems that exclude your child.
✨ Doing what works for your family, even when others don't understand.
Most importantly...
🩷 Stop apologising for taking up space.
Your child deserves to belong.
Your family deserves understanding.
And you deserve to parent without carrying the weight of unnecessary guilt.
You are not "too much."You are not an inconvenience. You are not a burden.
You are raising a child in a world that isn't always designed for them, and that takes courage, resilience and love every single day.
So today, replace the apology with pride.
Because your child doesn't need an apology.
They need acceptance. 🩷
