⚠️ Ticks are active — and one bite can become life-threatening.

Please make sure your dog’s tick prevention is up to date and take a few minutes to check them thoroughly every day—especially around the head, ears, mouth, neck, under the collar, between the toes, under the legs, around the groin and beneath the tail.

Ticks can be extremely difficult to see, particularly beneath a thick or curly coat, and they can look very different once engorged.

If you find a tick or notice any weakness, wobbliness, unusual breathing, gagging, vomiting, a changed bark or sudden tiredness, contact your veterinarian immediately. Don’t wait to see if your dog improves.

Daily checks and appropriate veterinary-recommended prevention could save your dog’s life. Please share this information with another dog owner. 🐾❤️

Meet Wisteria Labradoodle - Holly, joining us for four weeks of board and train at Fur Therapy! 🐾🤍

Her first few days were about building trust and getting to know the Fur Therapy squad—slow, supervised introductions, calm guidance and time to settle.

I watch her body language, give her space to choose and reward those little moments of confidence. Positive experiences at her pace help build a strong foundation.

While her vaccinations are still ahead, Holly joins our walks tucked into a sling, taking in new sights and sounds while staying off public ground.

Small steps, steady support and a world to discover. 🌿

As a dog behaviourist and trainer, I am often asked, “How long can I leave my puppy alone?”

The times shown are a guide only. My strongest recommendation is that a puppy is not left home alone during their first week with you.

The first seven days should focus on bonding, establishing a predictable routine, and beginning toilet and crate or pen training. Stay close and help your puppy feel safe and secure in their new environment.

This doesn’t mean they need to be beside you every second. Begin with tiny, calm separations—step out of the room for a few seconds, then gradually build to a minute and eventually a few minutes. These micro-absences teach your puppy that you leaving is safe and that you always return.

Once your puppy has settled:

• 8–10 weeks: Begin with just 5–10 minutes, ideally during a natural nap time. Build gradually and never leave a young puppy for more than one hour.

• from 12 weeks: If they are coping well, gradually build towards 1–2 hours as their confidence and bladder capacity develop.

• Six months and older: Many puppies can manage 3–4 hours, but they still should not be expected to cope with a full eight-hour working day without a toilet break, company (or even a pet sitter).

Every puppy is different. Their confidence, training, routine, health, bladder capacity and previous experiences all matter. Watch the puppy in front of you and build alone time gradually—it is not a race.
Remember dogs are a pack animal so being alone is very unnatural and scary to them let alone throwing them into a human world without providing the time to adjust.

Ellie’s final week at Fur Therapy 🤍

Our last week together was incredibly bittersweet. After a month of watching Ellie grow, explore and blossom into the happiest, most carefree little soul, it was time to prepare her for the journey home.

The final image is one I will never forget—Ellie secured in her travel crate, ready to fly to Sydney while I held my breath until I knew she was safely in her family’s arms.

I can’t deny the connection I formed with this beautiful little soul. Ellie was truly amazing, and saying goodbye was never going to be easy.

Go and live your beautiful life, sweet girl. You will always hold a very special place in my heart. 🐾🤍

Then along came Ellie’s brother, Stitch 🐾

By now, Ellie knew the Fur Therapy routine and was ready to hold her brother’s paw and show him the way.

While Stitch received the full royal Fur Therapy treatment, Ellie helped him discover the same sense of safety, calm and belonging that she had found here.

Watching her confidently guide and reassure him showed just how far my beautiful girl had come. 🤍
