💚 Our Equine Digestion Bars are one of our best-selling products, and for good reason — they can be truly transformative for your horse's digestive health. 💚

Before developing these bars, Midnight was always a little "off" from a digestive perspective. For years, I kept him on a daily dose of aloe vera gel (which definitely added up 💰😅), because if I missed even one day, I would certainly know about it when I rode him. He would also regularly go off his feed whenever we travelled away to competitions.

Then came the concept for our Equine Digestion Bars — a gift from the universe that changed everything. ✨

One of the questions I'm asked most often is:

❓ "Does my horse need to stay on the bars after the initial one-month course?"

As with so many things in the horse world, there isn't a simple yes or no answer!

🐴 For some horses, continuing with one bar daily, or even every second day, is the best way to keep their digestive system healthy, balanced and functioning at its best.

🐴 For others (including my own horses), our Digestive Support Elixir added to their feed each day — and before work, travel or competition — provides excellent ongoing maintenance. Then the bars can be used whenever extra digestive support is needed.

🧠✨ Would you guess this stunning horse was battling Grade 4 necrotic pyloric ulcers?

No? Neither did his owner.

Despite a glossy coat and a healthy physique, this gentle soul was quietly suffering—his only symptoms were recurrent colic episodes that landed him at the vet. When the ulcers were discovered, his owner was shocked. Aren't stomach ulcers reserved for the skinny, dull-coated horses?

👉 Actually, no.
Research shows no clear link between body condition and ulcer presence—whether in the upper or lower stomach. The sleekest, strongest-looking horse might still be struggling inside.

The pyloric region (where acid is produced) is particularly vulnerable. And while the exact cause of lining failure is still being studied, stress and drugs like bute are high on the suspect list.

This sensitive soul? His struggle was invisible… until it wasn’t.

For many years I managed Midnight’s digestive issues with a carefully controlled diet and daily aloe vera gel 🐴

He was much better in many ways, but if I missed even one dose, I could feel it straight away under saddle — and I could see it in his expression too 😢 That’s when I realised I still hadn’t really got to the root of the problem… it was more of a band aid than a solution 🤔

So I put on my researcher hat and took a step back to look at gastric ulcers and gut health as a whole.
What I learned challenged what I thought I knew. So much of the conventional approach focuses on reducing stomach acid — the “no acid, no ulcer” idea. But that got me thinking… horses have evolved to produce stomach acid continuously because they are designed to graze almost constantly.
So what happens when we alter that system? And if we remove the acid pressure, does that alone allow the gut lining to truly heal? Or is there more going on that we need to support? That shift in thinking is what led to the development of our Equine Digestion Bars 👍
