🩷 The One Year Arc of Grief 🩷

The first year after a loss is often marked by a wave of emotions that ebb and flow which may look like…

0-3 months - shock, denial, anxiety and confusion together with the practical tasks such as funeral planning

3-6 months - friends and family go back to their lives and feelings of despair, anxiety and deep sadness are felt

6-9 months - the reality of the loss sets in as the griever finds ways to adjust

9-12 months - leading up to the first anniversary can bring up feelings of dread and anticipation and anxiety

Here are some ways this might show up for you - and all of these responses are both normal and okay 🩷

🤍feeling numb
🤍feeling like you can’t stop crying or you can’t cry at all
🤍wanting to be alone
🤍laughing at what seems inappropriate times
🤍brain fog
🤍anger/immense sadness/guilt/anxiety/shame
🤍 feeling that you’re “not grieving properly” or in the same way that you see others respond
🤍 feeling different emotions all day long - it can feel like you’re in a washing machine
🤍 feeling desperately sad at the loss of the future you thought you had with your person

It’s okay to acknowledge that with the immense joy of welcoming a new baby, there can also be a sense of grief and loss for the life you once knew.

It’s common to feel like you have lost a part of yourself…the responsibilities can be all consuming, leaving you to question who you are now and mourn the person you used to be.

I provide 1:1 counselling sessions to explore the challenges of new motherhood and help you to rediscover your identity in this new transformed version of your life.

In our sessions we can explore:

✨ balancing self-care and caregiving
✨ building a support system

I understand that taking the step to seek counselling can be intimidating. You might worry that your problem isn’t significant enough to justify seeing a therapist.

Counselling offers a private space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions, knowing that you will be listened to and understood.

I provide support for individuals dealing with various forms of grief and loss, such as bereavement, life transitions and changes like the end of a relationship or coping with illness.
