Training is one thing. Training with a plan is another level.

Athlete development is about more than lifting weights and getting fitter. It’s about purposeful training, quality coaching and building the physical qualities that matter most for your sport.

We live to help athletes develop their strength, power or endurance through training tailored to their needs or goals.

Ever feel your hip thrusts more in your lower back than your glutes? 🍑

In this quick tip, CHANTEL BRANFORD | ExPhys / S&C shares two simple tweaks to help you get more out of your hip thrusts:

👉 Lower your hip thrust box height
👉 Initiate the movement with a slight pelvic tuck

More kilometres isn’t always make you a better endurance athlete.

Training volume matters, but your body needs to tolerate that work and use it effectively. If poor technique, limited strength or stability, or difficulty holding an efficient position is costing you energy, adding more sessions may not give you the return you’re after.

Before you add another swim, ride or run, sometimes it’s worth asking….How could I move more efficiently?

That’s where targeted strength, technique and a well-planned training load can make a difference.

What does an exercise physiologist actually do?

We use exercise to help people manage injuries, improve their health and maximise their performance to do the activities that matter to them.

That looks different for everyone and we take pride in taking the time to understand people and then build a plan that fits their life and where they’re starting from.

Curious whether exercise physiology could help you? Send us a message.

After a few weeks away from training... what option would you choose? 🤔

A) Load the bar with what you were lifting before.

B) Skip training because starting again feels hard.

C) Adjust the exercise to match where your body is today.

The answer… C ✅

In this session, Chris takes Morgan through a back squat using a box and tempo to rebuild movement quality before chasing heavier loads.

Why?

🏋🏼‍♀️ Tempo slows the movement down, improving control, positioning and time under tension

🏋🏼‍♀️ Box height provides a consistent depth target while building confidence and reinforcing good squat mechanics

The goal isn’t to “start over.”

The goal is to move well today so you can keep progressing tomorrow.

A new name that better reflects what we do and an approach that has always been at the heart of SEPSA.

We believe exercise physiology is more than treating an injury or handing someone a generic exercise program.

For us, it starts with understanding the person in front of us: where they are now, what matters to them and where they want to go.

From there, we combine clinical expertise, exercise science and performance-focused coaching to build a personalised plan that progresses with them.

That might mean returning from injury, managing a health condition, building strength and confidence, or preparing to perform at the highest level.

Different people. Different goals. The same SEPSA approach.
