Introducing Alfie! Alfie is 5 month old Labradoodle who is currently in training as a Therapy Assistance Dog. Alfie works alongside his trainer, Sarah Cooper, who provides counselling at our practice. Alfie’s role is to help you feel welcomed on arrival and calm throughout your appointment. Did you know that simply patting a dog can help to lower your blood pressure, reduce stress and release happy hormones? Therapy Dogs can assist in mental health settings in many ways such as helping to improve rapport between the client and the therapist and increase motivation for clients to engage during sessions. Therapy Assistance dogs provide a non-judgemental way of listening and behaving which can help clients to feel more comfortable when discussing their mental health. Specialist Clinics at Blackwood Hospital would officially like to introduce Dan - Physio Dan.
Dan completed his Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia in 2020 and since then has been working in both clinical and community-based settings.
Having lived his whole life with scoliosis, he initially became interested in physiotherapy to help him understand more about his own functional capabilities and pain management.
He now reaches out to help people from all walks of life become the healthiest version of themselves. As well as experience in treating and recognising a variety of chronic and acute musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, Dan has a keen interest in paediatric physiotherapy exercise rehabilitation and work and health safety.
Outside of work Dan is a keen boater, scouting the Adelaide metro seas, sinking a line as well as exploring the great outdoors and the 4x4 tracks SA has to offer.
