On these cool and rainy Winter days we will practice with the intention to warm up our bodies from the inside out!
There’s nothing like moving the body to increase our circulation and warmth and before you know it - presto - cold has turned to warm!
YANG practices this week will include a melt the fuzz flow plus some MFR for our calves quads and glutes
YIN practices will focus on our winter lines and include brushing, tapping and chi shakes to warm up

I’ve been homebound with a cold for the last 3 x days
Sometimes there’s just no other choice but surrendering to the need for rest and recovery…
Thankfully today I’m getting back on top of my health - definitely on the improve (albeit a bit croaky)
Feeling nourished by homemade soup, ginger & honey tea and some immune boosting practices.

Some positives from downtime at home?
* Nature watching in the garden with my doggo companion and a warm cuppa
* Sleep ins and movie marathons
* Finished crochet projects

Ever caught yourself thinking “I don’t have time for practice”…. You’re not alone!

Those never ending to do lists can be a big obstacle in the path to stepping on the mat, or even just sitting to take a brain break for 5 minutes.

It can be helpful to remember just how GOOD WE FEEL as we peel ourselves off the mat after a delicious savasana, how calm and settled we feel after taking a few minutes to close the eyes & breathe consciously…..

These simple practices GIVE BACK in so many ways, yes it takes EFFORT and DISCIPLINE to practice yoga, meditate or simply press pause….. but in return we CALM our nervous system, BOOST our immune system, RESTORE our essential energy and find ourselves moving through the day with CLARITY & FOCUS

BREATHE 🌿 MOVE 🌿 BE

Let your intention to move towards calm be stronger than the pull away

On Monday I had the privilege of sharing a day of yoga practices with students during their year 12 retreat.
It was such a good reminder to me of how the fundamentals of yoga can support us at any time of our lives, both on and off the mat!

The relatively short sessions (45 minutes) prompted me to plan practices that were a distillation of what I consider to be the important basics

* Breathe consciously towards smooth even sounded breath and land in the here and now. This begins the process of restoring our mind / body and calming the nervous system
* None of us has an endless capacity and taking the time to PRESS PAUSE is not a luxury but a necessity
* Start where you are: that is enough! Let go of preconceived ideas and expectations.. We are each unique and as a result it is totally natural that we will move, breathe and think differently to each other - no need to compare yourself to others, or even to yourself at a different time and space.

To be grounded is to feel stable, strong, and well-balanced, in body and in mind.
Each yoga practice is an invitation to connect to earth, creating a firm foundation from which we can then begin to expand, find buoyancy and joy.
Together this week we will explore breath and movement to help ground you, and bring you back into present moment awareness so that you can meet any challenge with ease
Creating a more stable and even foundation on the mat, taking this stability with us as we move off the mat and into daily life

Yoga is more than just Flexibility!!
So you’ve got tight hamstrings, a wonky foot, one leg longer than the other? We all have something going on - right?
Does that mean we’re no good at yoga?
Ever felt like you’re not doing it right?

🌸LET GO OF THAT IDEA RIGHT NOW!!! 🌸

We are all individual, yoga is so much more than achieving a pose or folding in half. Just so you know from the outset : There are no stickers given out for perfect posture (not in my class anyway).
It doesn’t matter how your pose looks, but climb inside and notice how it feels, listen to your breath and do what you can to the best of your ability.
Be content with that....

This week on the mat we will focus on RECLAIMING C A L M in both Yin and Yang classes PLUS an opportunity on Friday night for deep rest and relaxation during our 2 hour SOUNDBATH with Michelle Shanti - no effort is required.
We will spend the entire evening lounging on our mats whilst immersed in a vibrational soundscape.

Our theme for this week together on the mat is RESTORE
Having just spent 5 days on the beautiful Yorke Peninsula resting by the ocean I have returned feeling my energy stores replenished and I’d like to extend that feeling to you all by way of restorative practices.

WE ARE OPEN on Anzac Day (Saturday) with both 7:30am Ashtanga and 10am FLOW classes running as normal

* Our latest shipment of Koshi Chimes will arrive on the 1st of May - let me know if you’d like one set aside for you as they always fly out the door!

It’s time to pull on your wooly jumpers and fluffy socks
As the weather cools you might consider bringing a warm blanket or two from home, especially for yin practices! Although our space is heated, creating a welcoming warm landing pad can make all the difference at the end of your practice.

JUST IN: New to our yoga shop this week are our favourite Mongrel Socks
Treat yourself to a pair. They make awesome Mother’s Day pressies too!!
They’re so warm and soft (100% Tasmanian Marino wool) we’re wondering if they’ll make us some yoga onesies……..

On the mat with Karen this week Yang classes will take a hands free approach, shifting the focus into creating strength, stability and comfort in the lower body whilst giving the hands, wrists and shoulders a bit of a break!
Yin practices to help you feel steady, grounded and calm, establishing a deeper connection to Earth and ourselves
