What actually happens in a Nutritional Medicine consultation?

Many people arrive feeling overwhelmed, frustrated and exhausted from trying to piece together their health puzzle alone.

The internet offers endless information, but information isn’t the same as personalised healthcare.

My role is to listen deeply, investigate thoroughly, and help uncover the root causes contributing to your symptoms.

Through Nutritional Medicine, we explore the interconnected systems of the body—gut health, hormones, metabolism, immune function, stress, sleep, nutrition and lifestyle, to create a treatment plan that is realistic, achievable and tailored specifically to you.

I believe healing begins when people feel heard.

When clients leave my consultation room, I want them to feel supported, empowered, educated and hopeful about the path ahead.

Because your health story deserves more than a quick fix. It deserves understanding.

🌿 Holistic healing grounded in science, driven by passion.

✨ Turmeric✨

For thousands of years, turmeric has been treasured across cultures as both a culinary spice and a powerful healing food. Its active constituent, curcumin, has been widely researched for its ability to support healthy inflammatory pathways throughout the body.

In clinical practice, I often utilise therapeutic doses of turmeric to support clients experiencing inflammatory presentations, including:

🌿 Women’s health concerns, including endometriosis and heavy or painful periods

🌿 Gut conditions, including IBS and inflammatory bowel conditions

🌿 Musculoskeletal discomfort, autoimmune presentations, and inflammatory conditions affecting joints and connective tissue

As always, therapeutic supplementation should be guided by a qualified healthcare practitioner, as individual needs and circumstances vary.

At Health & Harmony, we believe food is one of our most powerful forms of medicine. Simple, nourishing ingredients used consistently can create profound shifts in health over time.

One of my favourite ways to enjoy turmeric is through this warming, anti-inflammatory morning ritual.

💛 Turmeric & Lemon Morning Elixir

Ingredients
• Juice of ½ lemon
• ¼–½ tsp turmeric powder (or freshly grated turmeric)
• ½ tsp honey (or to taste)
• ¼ tsp cinnamon
• A crack of black pepper
• 1 cup warm water (or warm milk of choice)
• 1 tbsp coconut cream

Method
Combine the lemon juice, turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper and honey in your warm water or milk and stir well. Add the coconut cream and continue stirring as you drink to help keep the turmeric suspended throughout the drink.

The black pepper helps enhance the absorption of curcumin, while the healthy fats from coconut cream further support its uptake.

A simple daily ritual to support nourishment, balance, digestive wellbeing and healthy inflammatory function. ✨

A little holiday announcement 🌿

After a busy season in clinic, I’ll be taking a much-needed family holiday throughout most of July.

Before I head away, I wanted to reach out to anyone who has been meaning to book a follow-up appointment, review pathology results, discuss symptoms, organise functional testing, or begin their health journey with an initial consultation.

I still have appointments available over the next two weeks and would love to support you before I leave.

As much as I love my work, I’m also a big believer in practising what I preach. Rest, connection, time in nature and creating meaningful memories with loved ones are all essential pillars of health.
My children and I are looking forward to a very overdue adventure together, and I can’t wait to return feeling refreshed and inspired.

✨ A little reassurance for my Whole Foods community: Whole Foods orders will continue as usual throughout July. Chef Charlie will be in the kitchen creating your nourishing meals, so you can continue placing your orders as normal while I’m away.

If you’ve been thinking about booking an appointment, now is the perfect time to secure your spot before July.

Thank you for being part of this beautiful community and for allowing me to do the work that I love every day. 🤍

One of the greatest privileges of my work is witnessing what can happen when a client commits wholeheartedly to their health journey.

Recently, a client came to me with a strong family history of elevated cholesterol and triglycerides. She had been told that if her blood markers didn’t improve within a matter of months, medication would likely be the next step.

Like many people, she believed genetics meant there was little she could do.

Over the following seven weeks, we worked closely together, focusing on gut health, liver support, foundational nutrition, and sustainable lifestyle changes. We checked in regularly, adjusted her plan when needed, celebrated every win, and navigated the challenges together.

Last week, she retested her bloods.

Not only had her cholesterol and triglyceride levels improved, but they had returned to within normal range.

To say we were both thrilled would be an understatement.

While every person’s health journey is unique, moments like these remind me why I am so passionate about nutritional medicine. They remind me that our bodies have an incredible capacity for change when given the right support, nourishment, and environment to thrive.

To my clients: thank you for trusting me, showing up for yourselves, and inspiring me every day to continue learning, growing, and deepening my understanding of the human body.

Your dedication is what fuels my passion for this work. ✨

NAC ✨

If you’ve been following along after our recent discussion on endometriosis, you’ve probably heard me mention a nutrient called NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine).

While NAC isn’t a magic bullet, it’s one of the most researched nutrients when it comes to supporting inflammation, oxidative stress, detoxification pathways and cellular health, all areas that can be impacted in endometriosis.

So what exactly is NAC?

NAC is derived from the amino acid cysteine and acts as a precursor to glutathione, often referred to as the body’s “master antioxidant”.

In endometriosis, elevated oxidative stress and ongoing inflammation can contribute to pain, tissue irritation and immune dysfunction. NAC may help support the body’s natural antioxidant systems and inflammatory balance.

✨ Why NAC may be helpful in endometriosis:

🌿 Supports healthy inflammatory pathways

⚡ Assists glutathione production, helping protect cells from oxidative stress

🩸 Supports healthy detoxification processes, including hormone metabolism

🛡️ Helps maintain immune system balance

🤍 May support overall pelvic health and wellbeing

Emerging research has explored NAC’s potential role in women with endometriosis, with promising findings. However, supplementation should always be individualised, as the right dose, timing and duration can vary significantly between people.

As always, supplements work best when they’re part of a comprehensive plan that addresses the gut microbiome, hormones, nervous system regulation, nutrient status and lifestyle foundations.

The goal isn’t simply to suppress symptoms, it’s to create an environment where the body feels supported, nourished and resilient.

Have you heard of NAC before?

ENDOMETRIOSIS: More than “just bad period pain”

Endometriosis affects approximately 1 in 10 women, yet many spend years seeking answers before receiving a diagnosis.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, creating inflammation, immune dysregulation, scar tissue, and pain.

What surprises many women is that symptom severity doesn’t always match disease severity.

✨ Symptoms may include:

• Severe period pain
• Pelvic pain between periods
• Pain during ovulation
• Pain during or after s*x
• Bloating (“endo belly”)
• Diarrhoea or constipation
• Bladder urgency or pain
• Fatigue and low energy
• Difficulty conceiving

🔬 Research shows endometriosis is associated with:

• Chronic inflammation
• Increased inflammatory cytokines
• Altered immune function
• Changes in oestrogen metabolism
• Oxidative stress
• Gut microbiome imbalances
• Nervous system sensitisation

This is why endometriosis is much more than a reproductive condition, it can affect the entire body.

🌿 Nutritional medicine may help support:

✓ Inflammatory balance
✓ Hormonal health
✓ Immune regulation
✓ Gut health and microbiome function
✓ Nutrient status and energy production
✓ Nervous system resilience

While there is no one-size-fits-all approach, a personalised treatment plan can help uncover the factors driving symptoms and support overall wellbeing.

If you’ve been told your symptoms are “just part of being a woman,” please know that debilitating pain is not something you should simply have to endure.

Your symptoms matter. Your experience matters. And support is available.

Your Immune System.
Your Remarkable Inner Army ✨

Your immune system is working for you every single second of every day. Quietly protecting, defending, adapting, and healing.

It’s not just one system, it’s an intricate network designed to keep you well:

🌿 Your innate immune system: your first responder
🌿 Your adaptive immune system: your intelligent memory bank
🌿 Your passive immunity: borrowed protection and support

And what we do each day either strengthens this inner army… or slowly depletes it.

Simple daily foundations matter more than most people realise:

🥚 Vitamin A rich foods to support mucosal immunity and viral defence
☀️ Vitamin D from sunlight and nourishing wholefoods
🥩 Zinc-rich foods for immune cell function
🍋 Vitamin C rich fruits and vegetables
🫙 Fermented foods for the gut microbiome
🍲 Gelatin-rich bone broth to nourish and repair the gut lining
🍄 Medicinal mushrooms for immune modulation and resilience
🫐 Elderberries, rich in antiviral flavonoids and beautiful support for immune resilience.
😴 Restorative sleep
🚶‍♀️ Gentle movement
🧘‍♀️ Stress support & nervous system regulation

Your gut microbiome and immune system are deeply intertwined. Around 70–80% of the immune system resides within the gut, meaning the health of your digestive system directly influences inflammation, immune resilience, histamine responses, and overall wellbeing.

One of my favourite reminders:
✨ The body is always trying to move toward healing and homeostasis when given the right environment and support.

Winter is such an important time to slow down, nourish deeply, and support the foundations.

If you or your family need a little extra support this season, I offer personalised immune support consultations via Zoom or face-to-face 🌿

These nourishing homemade gummies are a beautiful way to support the body through the cooler months, combining immune-loving ingredients with gentle gut support in one simple whole food recipe.

Made with elderberry immune syrup, these gummies are rich in antioxidant compounds traditionally used to support the body during times of viral and bacterial exposure, whilst helping to strengthen and regulate immune function naturally.

Gelatin provides important amino acids that help nourish and soothe the gut lining, supporting digestive integrity, immune resilience, and overall healing.

Simple, wholesome, and family-friendly, these gummies are a beautiful addition to your winter wellness toolkit.

💚 To the parents in the exhausting cycle of one bug after another, this one is for you.

You are not doing anything wrong. And you are absolutely not alone.

Winter can feel relentless when your little ones are unwell more often than not.

Here is what the science tells us: around 70–80% of the immune system lives in the gut. Which means building a resilient immune system in your child starts with nourishing their inner ecosystem.

Some of the most powerful things you can do this winter are also the simplest:

🥣 More variety on the plate, different plant foods feed different good bacteria
🥛 A little fermented food daily, yoghurt, kefir, miso in a warming soup
😴 Earlier bedtimes, sleep is where immune memory is made
🌞 Outside time every day, even in the cold, daylight and movement matter

Small, consistent foundations.
That is how we build resilient little humans. 💛

If your child is frequently unwell and you would love some personalised support, I would love to hear from you.
