It is finally Speech Pathology Week 2026! We use this week to recognise the hard work of all speech pathologists in Australia.

This year we acknowledge why communication is so important in building connections with others and creates the possibility to connect, learn, grow, belong, choose, participate and thrive.

Growing Our Clinical Practice with DIR®

Our team recently explored the DIR® (Developmental, Individual-Differences, Relationship-Based) Model through a presentation by Zanda, Senior Occupational Therapist, which strengthened our understanding of relationship-based, neuroaffirming practice.

DIR® helps clinicians understand how each person develops, learns, communicates and experiences the world. By recognising individual differences and using meaningful relationships to support development, DIRFloortime® provides practical strategies that promote engagement, communication, emotional regulation and participation.

At Innerlink Therapy, ongoing professional learning helps us deliver evidence-informed, person-centred therapy that supports children and families to achieve meaningful outcomes.

We were pleased to welcome Hon Tony Burke MP, Federal Member for Watson, to Innerlink Therapy to discuss the future of disability supports and the impact of the proposed NDIS reforms.

During his visit, we shared how our occupational therapists and speech pathologists support children, adolescents and adults to build communication, independence and everyday living skills that improve participation and quality of life.

We also spoke about our concerns regarding the proposed NDIS reforms and the potential impact on participants, families and the allied health providers who support them. Access to timely, evidence-based therapy is essential. When people cannot access the right support at the right time, the effects can be lifelong.

As a long-standing registered NDIS provider, we believe reforms should strengthen the Scheme while protecting participant choice, access to quality services and the sustainability of ethical providers delivering high-quality care.

Thank you, Tony, for taking the time to visit our team, hear our experiences and engage in an important conversation. We will continue to advocate for an NDIS that enables people with disability to communicate, participate and thrive.

💬 Every person deserves a way to be heard.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) gives individuals more ways to express their thoughts, feelings, needs, and ideas—because communication is about so much more than spoken words.

AAC can empower people to build relationships, increase independence, and participate more fully in everyday life. Research shows that AAC supports communication and does not prevent the development of speech.

At Innerlink Therapy, we work with individuals and their families to find the right communication supports and build confidence using them.

✨ Communication is a human right—and everyone deserves to have a voice.

Last week, we commenced our 'Ready, Set, Write' program where we enhance children's fine motor skills.

This program is ideal for children who avoid drawing or writing tasks, find it hard to hold a pencil grip comfortably and would benefit from building confidence before or during the early school years. ✍️

Call us on 02 8065 1197, to secure your child's spot! 🚀
