📖 Book Launch: Torn in Two by Haylee Lester

We’re pleased to support the launch of Torn in Two, a compelling debut novel by Haylee Lester.

Torn in Two follows Scarlette Anderson, a teenager living with a chronic illness - Short Gut Bowel Syndrome. After years of bullying and hospital stays, she finally gets a fresh start at a new school and makes one bold choice: no one can know she's sick.

But balancing hospital visits, new friendships and old secrets isn't easy. When her carefully constructed façade starts to crack, Scarlette throws herself into a fashion design competition - determined to prove she's just like everyone else.

A heartfelt story of resilience, identity and learning that being yourself is the bravest thing of all.

The book launch will be held on June 6 and is an opportunity to celebrate creativity, storytelling and the power of lived experience in shaping understanding and connection within our community.

Natasha Williams, CEO of Golden City Support Services, continues to advocate for equitable access to housing for all, including people living with disability, across our regional communities.

Over the past 12 months, Natasha has been a dedicated member of the Mount Alexander Shire Housing Advisory Committee, contributing to the development of a long-term, community-focused solution to local housing needs.

We’re proud to celebrate a significant milestone with the appointment of a Trustee to establish the Mount Alexander Affordable Housing Trust (MAAHT) — an independent organisation that will help deliver and sustain affordable housing in our region for years to come.

This initiative will play a vital role in supporting a diverse range of community members, including older residents, low-income households, people with disability and essential workers.

Strong leadership, collaboration and community vision are helping shape a more inclusive future.

🌟 Celebrating International HR Day at GCSS 🌟

Today, on International HR Day, we celebrate the people who sit at the heart of every strong organisation, our HR professionals. Their commitment to supporting our workforce, fostering a positive culture, and ensuring our teams feel valued and empowered is essential to everything we do at Golden City Support Services.

We’re also delighted to mark the occasion by welcoming Chantel Hogan as our new HR Manager at GCSS.

Chantel brings a wealth of knowledge, professionalism, and passion for people, and we’re excited about the impact she will have in strengthening our workforce and supporting our continued growth.

Please join us in celebrating HR today and in giving Chantel a warm welcome to the GCSS team. 👏

On 17 May, we recognise IDAHOBIT a day to stand alongside LGBTQIA+ people and communities, and to reaffirm our commitment to inclusion, respect and belonging.

This year’s theme, “At the heart of democracy,” reminds us that strong, connected communities are built when every person feels safe, valued and supported to be themselves.

GCSS believes everyone deserves the opportunity to live a full and meaningful life. We’re proud to stand with our participants, staff and community in creating spaces where diversity is celebrated and everyone can thrive.

Together, we can help build a more inclusive future.

This week, we are feeling incredibly grateful to have received a generous financial donation, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our supporters.

As a registered charity, we welcome donations of any size. With the end of the financial year approaching, donations may be tax deductible, making now a wonderful opportunity to help support people with disability.

We also welcome participation in our Workplace Giving Program, which allows employees to make regular, tax‑effective contributions through payroll. This is a powerful way to create lasting impact over time.

If you would like more information about making a donation or setting up workplace giving, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Thank you for being part of our community and for helping us continue to make a positive difference.
