We are aware of rumours circulating that the transition of Murphy House is due to a regulatory breach. While a breach did occur, we would like to clarify that this is not the reason Murphy House is transitioning to SIL housing.
We believe in being open and transparent with our community. Regulatory breaches are not uncommon within the SRS sector, and there are always multiple perspectives involved. This matter is currently being managed appropriately.
Unfortunately, the SRS model has been failing across Victoria for some time. There is simply not enough funding available to keep these valuable facilities operating sustainably. Our team has invested more time, effort, and financial support than has realistically been available to us in an attempt to keep the SRS facility running.
We also reached out to government bodies seeking funding assistance; however, without greater support, continuing under the current business model is no longer viable.
The decision to move our residents has been made with heavy hearts. We deeply care about our residents and the community we have built, but we can no longer continue operating within a system that lacks the necessary support to remain sustainable. We are doing everything in our power to support our residents throughout this transition, ensuring they continue receiving the care and supports they need while assisting them in finding appropriate alternative accommodation and opportunities.
Our purpose has always been to support members of our community to live independently, with dignity, choice, and control. Unfortunately, at times, changes need to be made to ensure we can continue providing that support into the future.
We sincerely appreciate the understanding and continued support of our residents, families, staff, and wider community during this transition, and we look forward to having you join us on this journey.
