Today is World Environment Day 🌏🌱

The future of our planet depends on the choices we make today. Protect nature, restore what has been lost, and nurture hope for future generations. πŸ’š

Paris, our talented work experience receptionist has designed a poster that replicates World Environment Day in her eyes.

The image she has created suggests that humanity is at a crossroads: one path leads to environmental destruction, while the other leads to restoration and renewal. Through care, action, and hope, we can help create a healthier future for the Earth.

The use of the characters from the movie WALL-E are strongly associated with environmental themes.

WALL-E is shown holding a boot with a small plant growing from it, symbolizing hope, resilience, and the possibility of regeneration.
EVE appears on the destruction side, drawing attention to the seriousness of environmental damage while also representing the future and technological solutions. Presented with the opportunity for regrowth from WALL-E.

Thank you Paris for creating this meaningful poster for us on World Environment Day.

You Don't Need 10,000 Steps Per Day

For years we've been told that 10,000 steps per day is the magic number for health.

But here's the interesting thing...

The 10,000-step target didn't actually come from science. It originated from a Japanese marketing campaign in the 1960s.

Since then, researchers have looked at what step counts are actually associated with better health outcomes.

And the results are surprisingly encouraging.

Several studies have found that the biggest improvements in health, longevity, and cardiovascular outcomes occur somewhere around 6,000-8,000 steps per day, with many finding a sweet spot around 7,000 steps.

Does that mean 10,000 steps is bad?

Not at all.

If you enjoy walking and comfortably achieve 10,000 steps, that's fantastic.

But if you've been feeling like a failure because you're only reaching 6,000-7,000 steps most days, here's some good news:

You're probably getting far more benefit than you realise.

The biggest health gains often come from moving from very little activity to moderate activity.

Going from 2,000 steps to 7,000 steps is likely far more impactful than going from 7,000 to 10,000.

So if you're trying to improve your health, don't let perfection get in the way of progress.

A 20-30 minute walk today is infinitely better than aiming for 10,000 steps and doing nothing because it feels too hard.

Sometimes the best target is the one you'll actually achieve.

For years, we've been told that 10,000 steps per day is the magic number for health.

Your vision matters. πŸ‘οΈ

Macular degeneration is one of the leading causes of vision loss, particularly as we age. It affects the macula, the part of the eye responsible for sharp central vision used for reading, driving, and recognising faces.

Early stages often have no symptoms, which is why regular eye checks with your optometrist are so important.

Signs to watch for may include:
🟒 Blurred or distorted central vision
🟒 Difficulty reading or recognising faces
🟒 Dark or empty patches in your vision

While there is no cure, early detection and treatment can help slow progression and protect your sight.

🚭 Don’t smoke
πŸ₯¬ Eat a healthy diet rich in leafy greens and omega-3s
😎 Wear sunglasses outdoors
πŸ‘ Keep up with regular eye examinations

Book your eye check with an optometrist today and take care of your vision.

Our sincere apologies for the alarm that has gone off for hours.
Nothing I can say to adequately make up for the disruption and noise pollution.
(Long story; security adamant no alarms going off, I got to the clinic; a malfunction of the external alarm, then waited on a technician to turn it off and then no technician coming).
A massive thank you and big gratitude to the two lovely gentleman that cut the wires.
Again; So Sorry.
