Stress is not the enemy.

While it is not inherently bad, it becomes an issue when you don't get a chance to relax.

😔Feeling overwhelmed
😔Exhausted yet restless
😔Snapping at loved ones
😔Depending on caffeine, alcohol, or endless scrolling just to cope

If any of this resonates, swipe through for more insights into what stress can look like, why it matters, and a few reminders worth holding onto. 💙

Transitions can be a hard thing to go through, especially when they involve leaving somewhere, someone, or something familiar.

A few small things can make a noticeable difference before a difficult moment hits:

1️⃣ Give a clear warning: a heads-up reduces the shock of change.
2️⃣ Reduce competing demands: one hard thing at a time is easier to manage.
3️⃣ Show what happens next: uncertainty is often more difficult than the change itself.
4️⃣ Leave time to recover: don't try to immediately follow the transition with the next task.

Small, practical steps like these can ease the weight of a hard moment, whether it's a daily transition or a bigger life change.

P.S. Save this one for next time. 🔖

💙 Myth: NDIS psychology is the same as regular counselling.

👀Reality: it's focused on building capacity for your NDIS goals.

NDIS-funded psychology isn't about general talk therapy. It's about helping you build practical skills that support daily functioning and independence. These skills can be related to emotional regulation, social interaction, communication, and coping strategies. They all tie directly to what you're working toward in your plan.

It's a different focus to Medicare or private counselling, which is why it's sometimes possible to access both without duplication: NDIS covers functional capacity building, while Medicare covers clinical treatment.

Each situation is unique, so make sure you get the right advice for you. Our team is here to help when you need it.

We know that getting to appointments isn't always simple. Our aim is never to just fill a schedule. It is to make a genuine difference for the people we support, and for the families and carers who trust us with that role.

So here is a quick update on how we can support you.

There are three ways to access Psychology, Occupational Therapy, and Positive Behaviour Support with Sigma Therapies. You can choose what works for you.

🔹Clinic: a consistent, familiar space for sessions (Bibra Lake, Midland, South Perth, Gosnells, and Morley)
🔹Mobile: support delivered in your home, school, or community, wherever it's most relevant
🔹Telehealth: flexible access from anywhere in Australia, at the same fees as in clinic

We're currently accepting new referrals across all three services. No waitlists - which means the first appointment will typically be booked within 1 to 4 weeks.

Make a referral on our website or enquire by phone or email. Every referral to Sigma is looked after by a real person. 🫶

💙 Myth: Positive Behaviour Support is about stopping behaviour.

👀 Reality: PBS starts with understanding the behaviour.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an NDIS-funded service, but it's not about correcting or controlling someone's behaviour. It starts with figuring out why the behaviour is happening in the first place. Is it communication? Overwhelm? An unmet need? A response to something in the environment?

Once we understand that, we can build practical ways to address the cause, not just manage what gets expressed at surface level.

Sigma Therapies' PBS team is psychology-led, supporting NDIS participants of all ages across the lifespan. We have open capacity and look forward to support families in Perth.

Noticing your child struggling with daily tasks and wondering how to help?

It might be the right time to explore Occupational Therapy as a supportive option.

This therapy can assist with various aspects such as refining motor skills, enhancing sensory processing, reaching developmental milestones, managing emotions, or improving social interaction.

By addressing these areas, you can help your child navigate daily challenges more effectively.

Meet Lydia! 👋

We're so happy to welcome Lydia Chuah to Sigma Therapies as our newest Occupational Therapist.

Lydia brings a family-centred approach to her work with children, using play-based therapy to build motor, social and language skills in a way that feels fun. Her own childhood experience with learning difficulties gives her a depth of empathy that's rare to find. She understands what it's like to need that extra bit of support and encouragement.

Lydia particularly enjoys supporting children with neurodiverse conditions and their families.

Outside of work, you'll find her at Pilates, exploring Perth's best food spots, or out hiking.🌿

Read more about her on our website (Link to our team page in bio), then get in touch - she'll be happy to answer your questions.💙
