Quiet Mind Meditation

Quiet Mind Meditation Sarah is a meditation teacher based in Melbourne (Australia) and Founder of Quiet Mind Meditation (2009) and The Meditation Box (2022) Life is busy. And noisy.

After a long and challenging corporate career that came to a crossroad following the Global Financial Crisis .. Sarah took herself off to a meditation retreat and realised it was time to share her passion for meditation (her secret weapon in life) through Quiet Mind Meditation. Having meditated for more than 20+ years, Sarah is well aware of the challenges that life can present, and is eternally g

rateful that she learnt to meditate as a teenager .. and continued to meditate through all the ups and downs and meanderings. We are constantly bombarded with information .. words, thoughts, sights, sounds, smells .. that cause us to live in a state of perpetual edginess with no time to processes everything. But when we live on 'fast-forward' we miss the moments we have right now, and this can leave us with a residue of something missing. We disconnect from life and our sense of self. The ability to be both extremely relaxed physically and mentally, while remaining alert and awake, is one way to describe the meditative state. Research clearly shows that a regular meditation practice teaches us how to self manage our stress, which positively influences our inner biochemistry; improving our physical and emotional health, providing more restful sleep and improved energy levels alongside increased ability to cultivate positive emotions and a deeper understanding of who we are in our quietest moments.

Winter Practices.

As we approach the Winter Solstice here in the Southern Hemisphere (Sun 21st June) - the longest and darkest night of the year - I have been reflecting on the wisdom of winter … and the practices that have supported people through this season for centuries.

I have gathered twelve of my favourite Winter Practices, inspired by ancient traditions and while each comes from its own unique lineage, they share a common thread: an invitation to slow down, turn inward, and cultivate warmth, light and presence during the colder months.

From mindfulness of breathing and gentle Qigong, to lighting a diya, observing the night sky, restorative yoga and seasonal reflection, these practices offer simple ways to align with winter’s quieter rhythm.

Which winter practice calls to you most this season? ❄️

THE QUIET PAUSE - JUNE

✨ Out Sun. mornings ✨

Our June meditation is:

✨ Deep Rest Meditation

A gentle seated practice that begins with a qigong inspired exercise called ‘Spinal Cord Breathing’ … which gently moves the spine through a simple opening + closing pattern which helps settle the nervous system, releasing tension in the body, and creating a quiet sense of ease from within.

THE QUIET PAUSE - JUNE

✨ out tomorrow - Sun. morning ✨

Winter is quietly unfolding and already the air is much cooler, and the nights darker.

Your mind and body might also be asking, quite naturally, to slow down, stay inside, and stay cosy.

Have you noticed?

In June, within The Quiet Pause, we enter a new monthly practice:

✨ Deep Rest Meditation

A gentle, yin and qigong inspired meditation that includes some gentle mindful movement before stillness - to support the body in releasing effort, the breath in settling, and the mind to quieten.

If you feel the invitation to slow down and explore some Deep Rest, you are warmly welcome to join us.

+ Each Sunday you’ll receive an email with the guided meditation (audio)

Winter whispers the wisdom of stillness.

In nature, the land quiets. Growth moves inward, beneath the surface, where it cannot yet be seen. Trees stand bare, not empty .. but resting, conserving energy, holding the quiet potential of what is yet to come.

In this stillness, nothing is lost. Everything is gathered.

Rest is not absence of life … it’s the preparation for renewal.

In meditation, we are invited into this same wintering.

Each time we sit, we soften outward movement and turn inward … allowing thoughts, sensations, and breath to settle into a quieter rhythm. We rest in reflection, noticing without needing to respond.

We return again and again to stillness … not as something to achieve, but something already here beneath the surface of activity.

With each practice, we strengthen our capacity to rest in presence — so when life asks us to slow down, pause, or withdraw, we are more able to meet it with ease rather than resistance.

I am never ‘ready’ for Winter (so not a fan of the cold and rain) .. but here in the southern hemisphere, the seasonal cycle turns again tomorrow and I find that I can be appreciative for the rest and refuge.

A little Winter wisdom …

Winter teaches us that there is..
beauty in slowing down,
wisdom in stillness, and
quiet strength in rest.

Saturday reflection.

After Qigong class this morning, while walking along my local beach, a thought came through that I later shared more fully in a blog post. Link in bio.

It began with something a past teacher used to say … that meditation and contemplative traditions might be seen as different pathways up a mountain.

And, as I continue my Qigong studies, I keep returning to this idea.

Each path has its own landscape, language, and view, shaped by the terrain it moves through, yet all are drawn toward a shared aspiration: to reach the summit and see a little more clearly.

Each time we sit in meditation, move through a Qigong form, or simply pause long enough to listen inward, we’re participating in that same unfolding exploration.

It’s been a big week!

Work. Family. Birthdays. Classes. Study. Practice. Big decisions. Little sleep!

Big my morning meditation has given me so much joy this week .. that incredible sense of slowing down time and finding space for just being!

This new life as a student (again) of Qigong has called for fresh attention and … I thought it would be ‘easy’ to fit ‘that’ practice into my morning - after meditation, beach walk - then, Qigong.

But it’s been much harder to settle into that rhythm.

Lola 🐶 wanted to swim@every day this week … meaning she needed a bath, and dry, post walk. As did I.

Then she needed to be fed - only fair. By which time I was hungry too .. and desperate for a coffee!

The mornings have been stretched.

There have been a number of insights that I’ve written down in my journal - a few So ‘ah-ha’ moments.

I’m in the process of writing a BLOG post on some insight … should be up over the weekend.

“Musings from an old meditator …back to being a beginner student again!”

Beautiful days!

07/05/2026

I started writing about my meditation experiences and practices .. way back in 2009/2010 … and this was the birth of Exploring Meditation.

Why 40 days?

There are many thoughts to share on this, but essentially, 40 days (or six weeks) just seemed to be a good place to start. Some students in class would whisper its ‘so long’ at the start, and then I’d hear ‘it was too short’ as we reached the end of our time together. This s happens 😊

But it is a really good starting point - 40 days of regular practice so you can begin to build a comfortable rhythm and begin to experience some of the benefits of regular meditation.

40 days is also enough time to shift from motivation to ritual - where your practice becomes embodied, rather than intellectual.

By returning to the same intention and practice each day we begin to cultivate presence, resilience, kindness, patience, and a quieter relationship with ourselves.
