Womens workshop - are you interested to come? Well….it's a beautiful day out there. It’s really beautiful [Karli puts her hand on her heart, showing her pleasure and taking one deep breath]. Little things make me feel really good. For example, self care, self pleasure, like this [Karli showed her hands touching] showing me that I am alive. [Karli then caressed her arm]. Wow, there is so much wonderful energy in our bodies… At the workshop we will have lots of talks, including four presenters; two Deaf and two hearing. More information coming soon to tell who is the other Deaf presenter; she will talk about her story. She is a yoga teacher, like me and other two women too, in fact four of us are yoga teachers! How exciting, more flyers coming soon. Bye now.

Recently the World Deaf Federation provided an interesting webinar about disaster risk reduction for deaf communities.
There were three speakers. The first speaker [Emmanuel Jacq] talked about how to improve accessibility for deaf communities to understand the different types of warnings and alerts.
That text and vibration system were not enough that deaf people could sometimes miss out on what's the alert, or the alert can be missed or lost among the messages
They are in the process of making an app that will show different types of flashing lights, vibrations and colors, to show different emergencies and severity level events occurring.
The app should be able to show you what type of emergency, how serious the emergency is, what type of danger it is; is it a fire, flooding or earthquake? What to do in emergency and how to access more details in your local language.
The second speaker, Diedre, talked about climate resilience and was passionate about ensuring access equals safety to the deaf communities. She wanted to improve knowledge gained and make sure the deaf communities have access to information needed and that they can react and take measures appropriately.
The third speaker, [Karli] talked about mental health and physical health that can occur in disasters or alerts. She talked about how important it can impact on your emotions and confidence level if you do not feel prepared or you don't know what to do. That can make you feel anxious or bad. You feel a lack of motivation to prepare or protect yourself during the crisis.
But this can be fixed by being prepared and having a good system of access to information, services, and support during the crisis.
I thought the WDF webinar was good.

I’m back in Melbourne from the Sunshine Coast where it was warm. I was there for the Australian Deaf Games, where I taught yoga classes, played table tennis and pickleball, and presented on Sports and Mental Health. It was a busy, social time, and I felt exhausted by the end. Pickleball is an interesting new sport—is it a fad? Table tennis had a smaller team, which made me sad. Will table tennis disappear while pickleball expands? The next Australian Deaf Games will be in four years—will you go? I’m thinking about how I might be involved next time. Goodbye.

Hello from KHC, I provide supervision groups for hearing professionals who don't know much about how to work with Deaf people and their deaf mental health issues in depth. There are some hearing professionals out there, nationwide, who have very little experience working with deaf people but it is not enough due to limited study on deaf mental health, especially childhood development. So to meet those needs, I can provide online supervision sessions to discuss/educate. I have received two requests, I welcome more interest to build up to 6 professionals. The cost will be reduced if there is more interest. I look forward to hearing from you, bye.
