April 1 - 113 kph.

“Is it possible for me to get to 120kph by the start of Greenies?”

2 x week in the centre with the team plus 1 independent session

2 mornings per week - 6am Sprint sessions.

Well done to 15 year old Parth Limbachiya from on reaching 130.

An increase of 17kph in 8 weeks

Left hand Front sided bowler. Notice how he is starting to stabilize his load up hand between impulse stride and back foot contact. This will allow a better transfer of his momentum to the crease and a strong base to create a strong pull from the right hand through the crease. Now just the timings.

same profile as .95 and the same thirst for knowledge … “I have a question”

Even though same profile the strategy for a left hander is completely different.

Bring on 135

See you at 6am

“I get the position but I feel slower”

“How is it possible to get my left arm there and delay?”

When working with one of the worlds fastest bowlers in .95 this is a sentence I fear

After clocking 93mph (149kph) in a session with I reviewed what we had been working on. With permission his feedback video attached

The video introduces some concepts that Sonny was open to trying.

Transitional stability - the strategy used to hold and control his momentum before the impulse stride. Here a stable front arm which is the preferred strategy for a rear sided bowler (steyn and archer adopt this as well) holds him steady to stabilise him to prep his action initation driver (in this case right forearm). The arm controls his momentum and allows greater transfer of speed into the action.

Shabhaz observed it and we saw it with our .tapex assessment last year.

Note - front sided bowlers will use a gather load stabilization strategy - Brett Lee and Shaob ahktar are good examples.

Front arm delay. As Sonny initiates with his right forearm moving down into the gather pullback he is best served by delaying the projection of the front arm until after this has moved. The timing here is impeccable. And hard.

Front arm does not need to reach and pull down in rear sides bowlers. IMO and IME this contributes to side strains and ankle impingement issues as well as over striding and a collapsing front leg brace.

Stablise

Delay

Release

He worked hard. Using wearables we could strengthen and control the front arm with proximal weights and then distal weights and weighted balls to improve timings to load

6 months ago we started. 4 months ago we questioned if it was working.

Today hopefully he reaps the reward of that work.

Better release

More variety with control

More speed - and more to come

Test cap 🤞

Only possible with profiling and support. DMDs are the bomb.

256 models of bowling actions and this is Sonny’s

Good luck my friend and hope to see you soon

Well done . Big finish to your first year of premier cricket. Starting as a medium pacer lower order batter finished your first year as a keeper and top 6 bat. This 65 today is testament to your hard work and resolve. Thanks to for your work with him and guidance.

Very proud dad today.

This young man just has something about him. He tells me he was nervous but didn’t show it.

Even though he isnt a front line bowler in this team he was entrusted to bowl overs 38 and 40 - getting a wicket forcing a desperate run for a run out and executing a run out of their main bat himself. Like his brother 5 years ago involved in the winning play for a premiership

Hopefully he continues his love for this game and like his brother before him forms some great friendships

So happy for this “over thinker”.

An awesome reward for the effort you have put in.

All I say to people out there is be true to yourself. You are who you are and be the best version of that person you can be

Just like .95

Keep doing things different and keep getting the rewards and a big thank you for letting me and the team be part of that journey.

Enjoy it mate

Well done to Sonny Baker and a chance for me to reflect

If anyone deserves it it is him. The true cricket nuffy …

Last Wednesday night we had a live video session to discuss a few things. I had sent him a review and a few things I wasn’t happy with. Feedback taken.

When we chatted he had his note book ready to write down how to do the plethora of drills we have spent 15 months working on. How does he fit it in to his first class schedule?

This turned out to be a very different chat and coaching session.

Sonny - trust the process.

1. The drills are there to build trust. They reinforce the hard work you’ve done. They don’t need to change they can simply be part of your routine

2. Build routines. You know your intent before you run in. You know how to reset yourself and re focus (dmds + activations + initiations). You know your cue and when to use. Trust it

3. You know your role. You know what you have been picked to do. Don’t be someone else else they’ll Pick someone else.

4. Block the noise. What works for you works for you

No drill review

No change in the program

No panic

We dont do enough of these type of sessions in general but there is no doubt the value cant be measured.

Well done again.

Thanks again .95 for kind words and the opportunity to help.
